Thought I'd revive this old thread. I see so many overpriced and pirated restore CD's on ebay, I wanted to let everyone know you can still get legal copies direct from HP at the above number for only $10 plus tax, shipped first class mail.

good to know. I am having some trouble though with Hp's website locking for warranty information about My machine. says my serial number is invalid?

In portrait mode, the label on the back, top right has the serial. It's the one on the left side of the label. I also wanted to add that the restore disks I just got from HP are a driver CD and a single DVD with the latest Tablet PC 2005 OS with SP2. They came regular mail in less than a week.

If your system is under warranty, it should be free. Mine was.

If you have trouble, try leaving off #ABA (or similar) from the end of your product number.

Bump
Not sure if they're still available but it worth a try, rather than lining the pockets of some ebay pirate. That is, if you have a COA.
EDIT: Should this be a sticky

I did call and verfy the number today and you can order this way. I didn't have an HP serial number to use, so I didn't actually talk to anyone but it appears to be a simple process.
Thanks mdavej for bringing this to our attention!

I just purchased my tablet second hand and among other things, it seemed to me that the previous owner was less than scrupulous. When I ran Avast on it, there was a virus which was traced back to some XP Key changing software that the previous owner had downloaded from a torrent site. Anyway, I promptly deleted the file and the virus as well as the torrent software.
I called HP tonight and gave them the SN (had to get it from the BIOS since someone had removed the sticker from the back --silly pirates). Anyway, it seemed to work flawlessly. HP charged me $10.98 and said they would overnight the recovery CDs. Awesome

1100: Thanks for posting about your experience. It's good to know that HP is still providing this service to our community!

Where did you buy this from?

1100's have the COA inside the battery bay. Enterprise lease selloffs often remove COA's as policy and/or were removed by IT using corporate licenses.

I think he meant the label in the upper right corner that contains the serial / part numbers.....

The serial tag can fall off using cleaners that dissolve bond/and or weakened peeling off feeling screw beneath in attempts to open case. Not necessarily shady previous owners as cause.

Yes, I meant the sticker on the outside. The COA is still under the battery though. I bought this from an individual on Craig's list. And yes, he was shady, but mostly in retrospect was when I found these things out. He sent me a picture of a different unit entirely and then lied about it when I asked about the differences, told me the battery was just dead in the stylus when in fact it's not even the correct one, advised me that he wasn't sure if there was an optical drive in the bay when anyone spending more than 10 minutes with the docking station could figure out there wasn't, told me that his brother bought the unit in late 2005 or early 2006 which meant it was still under warranty, but come to find out all these things were deceptive untruths. HP advised me the unit went into warranty in January 2004.
Anyway, you live and you learn. At least I don't have much money in it.

Has anyone here installed from the recovery CDs? I have, from what I believe to be a copy of the CDs and everything works great except it never asks me for the Windows Product Key. It works fine but it's almost like it's a volume license version. Is that right?

When installing from factory recoveryCD's, those like the ones for the TC1xxx are model specific and some look for bios tags and do not require a serial key or activation. However, if you try to use the disks on another computer they will either not work or ask for a serial key.

Hi all. just joined the forums. i have a mint condition TC1100 (one of last ones made with 1.2ghz chip and only just out of warranty). i bought off ebay and all is well except i want to restore and have no media. HP over here are hopeless. all calls go to an Indian call centre who tell me to call microsoft about the restore CDs. of course microsoft then tells me it is an OEM install only and so only HP can get me the disk. should be simple but isn't. anyone got some joy for me? HI! I just joined the forum like 5 seconds ago YAY!!!! Anywho I just got a TC1000 (or soon because it hasn't arrived yet). It has no OS but it was a steal and I thought it would be perfect for the starving music that I am. I called HP and they told me that they wanted 35 dollars!!! I tried to look for cheap/free OS's (leaning towards free) online but alas I'm lost and school starts in a month. anyone wanna help?

I know you can download them for the TC1100 but I can't find them for the TC1000.
Sorry, Does your tablet have the windows key sticker under the battery? I got my OS DVD and Driver CD for the TC1100 from HP and it only cost me $10.

I just ordered the restore disk set from hp, so the number still works..... took about 2 min. Cost was $10.63 with free USPS shipping. You will need your Model number (CT1100) and the S/N on the back of the tablet. Call 1-800-952-7689 option #1.

Does anyone know if the number and price in this thread are still valid? I just bought a TC1100 off eBay and it is missing the HD. I have a replacement, but I need the CD's. Has anyone ordered them recently or is there another place to get them? Thanks.

Last I heard you can still get them from HP. You just need to give them the model (TC1100) and your serial number. They should still be around $10 to $12

Did you try different numbers for HP. I cant read this but the second one down should be the business number. That is the number you want to contact. Give it a try.

I made a call just now, and the response is:
We (HP Support Spain) do not ship any OS cds/dvds, you can always install other OS or in case you have not deleted any computer partitions, you can reinstall from the hd.
so, nothing to do here.
I found a web page for someone who can share the cds via ftp, www[dot]marknine.net/TC1000.html for 15£... does anyone know this guy ?
Anyone with a best offer? Maybe someone could send me a copy? , i really would like to get those cds for my frankenstein tc1000
