I don't have my tablet in hand yet so please excuse my ignorance but somewhere here at tpcbuzz there was a post about recording someone speaking while taking notes. What app is used to do that? Journal? OneNote?

OneNote will do it, but I use a program called Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/). When you're done recording you can encode to MP3 which is really handy. :)
I think I'm not going to touch OneNote until they give the ability to import or otherwise read all of my journal .jnt files.
edit: link added to Audacity.

So, you're saying that OneNote won't let you export just the sound once you're captured it?

Well, I don't think I was saying that, but I tried it after you mentioned it and can find no facility to do that. You seem to be able to right-click on the sound icon (which is created in the Note after you are done recording) and copy... perhaps you can paste it into another audio program.
But no, what I meant was that OneNote doesn't seem to read/import .JNT (Windows Journal) files. IMO, this should've been the first thing to go into 1Note. [eureka] We can only hope that the actual release might include that functionality or they include some sort of add-on later, but I'm not holding my breath.

The audio files in OneNote are saved as WMA's. WMA's are smaller than MP3s. I prefer mp3 for music, but I honestly don't care for some lecture notes. They are located in the My Notebook directory of My Documents. The WMA files are fully functional and can edited, played in a media player of choice, deleted, cropped or emailed.
Additionally you can activate an option in OneNote so that when you email your notes to someone the audio file will go with it.

Trev, does your Motion do a good job of capturing the lecture without an external mic? I'm considering getting the M1300 but wondered how well the tiny mic input on the front would pick up speech in a reasonably quite room. OneNote is one of the applications that make me think I want a TPC (assuming it works as advertised). What's your experience?
Has anyone found a good, small microphone that works better than the built in one?

I like OneNote for doing this... the ability to sync your sound up with your notes is really great as compared to just having sound only.

The microphone on my tablet works pretty well. I thought it would pick up all the pen clicks and such, but it really doesn't Listening to my lectures via headphones works very well. I was really surprised by the quality of the microphone.
I can post a clip of lecture note tonight.

Does the sync'd notes and audio work nicely, letting you directly listen to the correct audio when you directly go to a location in the notes? If so, that's really powerful for lectures/presentations, hearing the audio just at the point when your notes say "What's going on here?" or "She's talking too fast!"
It would also be pretty neat if the notes could be sync'd to a PPT presentation, so you could jump to a spot in the notes, have the audio jump to the same place, and have the PPT jump to the right slide.

Yes lougee, that is the case. It does work nicely HOWEVER, one problem is it doesn't let you manipulate the audio at all. When I record lectures without OneNote I do two things: Amplify it by about 5X and turn it into MP3. This whole procedure takes a few extra minutes and interaction but is worth it because I can actually HEAR what's going on (and OneNote saves in compressed WMA format so that's not really an issue). But no mic boost really sucks... I wonder how others deal with this issue.

Trev, what do you use to edit WMA files? I use a program called Audacity for MP3s but it doesn't support WMA.
Thanks...

Thanks, Afterimage, for confirming that it actually works well.
Since I sometimes teach/lecture, I've played with using wireless mics, which work very well to provide good/excellent audio into the notebook/tablet. Mics can be cheaper (Sony, maybe $75-100) or pricey (the types university lecture halls have), both provide good audio.
What would be *really* fascinating, I think, is if a "movie" of the lecture (say from a camcorder, focused on slides and/or speaker), thus an .avi, .rm, or .wmv file could be sync'd with the notes, thus letting you feel like you were "back in your seat" in the room, as you review your OneNotes. (Of course for some talks, that might be the definition of Hell, being forced to relive an awful presentation!)
I wonder if OneNote could be fooled into playing an .wmv, instead of the .wma.

I actually haven't done any editing. I was just mentioning that it was possible as the files are accessible not locked away somewhere. I'm sure a search at download.com would reveal a wma editor.
