Well, my 2 cents would be take a hard look at the Motion 1300. first off, you are going to want pressure sensitivity, if you will be doing photo editing, correct? That knocks HP\Compaq out of the box (with extreme prejudice). Secondly, I assume you would like a nice large screen? Motion and the Toshiba have the largest screens (12 inch), but the Acer and the Fujitsu have small 10 inch screens, which I would consider unacceptable for any graphics oriented user (at least with my eyesight!). So that leaves the Motion (a slate) and the Toshiba (a convertible). Could come down to the fact if you feel the need to have a keyboard with you constantly. From what I gleen from the boards, the Toshiba is considered heavy, and supposedly the graphics performance is the dregs. But it did come out of the TabletPC gate with the best hardware performace-wise. I do not know how it now compares with the new centrino-based Motion 1300. (I have a Motion 1200 myself.)

I am an artist and I love the slate format as a sketchbook. but I also code, and I miss the keyboard some also. You can get a USB keyboard from Motion, and they have a clamshell case which gives you a laptop-like paradigm, though the whole package seems clunkier. But if you think a slate is the way to go, I think Motion is the one to investigate.

When I use photoshop on my m1200, I bring up the software keyboard. It sits on top of PS and lets me do all my keyboard shortcuts. While I am not as productive in terms of being two handed. The ability to use the pen directly on whatever I am working on improves the quality and speed immensely. Lassoing has never been easier!

I agree completely with printmkr, he has summed it up perfectly.

I have an M1300, and I just loaded PS 7 on it (alomng with a ton of other stuff) but I haven't done anything yet with it. I also am a photographer (amateur) and one of the main reasons I got a tablet PC was to use it on-location. I'm even entertaining tethering my Contax body to the TPC's Firewire port and shooting raw images straight to the TPC, but don't know how that will turn out battery wise.

I'll post comments when I get to Photoshop. Right now I'm still aclimatizing myself to the pen (I'm used to a trackball and dual 22" monitor setup and it's a real culture shock, but it's been fun so far :D).

Agreed. I will definatly look into the M1300

Right now at our studio we use some custom's with Lacie monitors (which are awesome) but on the go we use an old dell inspiron notebook, which cannot do any editing really (it can, but so poorly that i'd rather not mention. My home pc is dieing, it's an old p2 400 and has lasted me through a great deal.. but alas it's time for new and i'm in college (translates into poor) and i'd like to plug my Canon EOS 10D or 1D in and use the remote control. I've never been a fan of this, but the convienience would be awesome!

Plus, taking noted in class, I'd be cool (or a dork) but still i'd be very economical.
