I applied the refresh this morning, and was actually able to coherently take notes during meetings this afternoon.
The software does a much better job of recognizing that you are still writing in the same line and not starting a new text block capriciously. It also does a better job of recognizing that adjoining text blocks belong together.
The outling is also improved. I'm trying to figure out now how to continue outline numbering between pages.
Other useability improvements, menu changes, icons, etc. This version is getting close.

I'm going to post a writeup with screenshots about the changes soon, looks like they are getting it right! :)

OneNote still does better when you tell it you are writing, or tell it you are drawing. I still get uneven results letting OneNote decide which I'm doing.

After installing the OneNote refresh Outlook 2003 doesn't work at all anymore. I'm still working on recovering my data.

I reinstalled Office 2003 but Outlook still won't start. It initially complains that it can't start and tries to start in safe mode. That doesn't do anything so when I try to run it again it does a repair. Initially that would run the OneNote repair process (???). I uninstalled OneNote so Outlook's repair process runs, but nothing changes. It still won't start (even in safe mode).
I've learned my lesson. 3 phrases that I will never use in the same sentence: "Microsoft", "Beta" and "I installed".

Whew. I found my outlook.pst file and it seems to be OK. I uninstalled everything so all that's left is to reinstall Office (gotta decide if I want to use 2003 or not).
Needless to say, I'll be backing up my .pst file on a regular basis now.

I really like it so far, but when I write the letter "c" (When it begins a word) disappears right after I have written it. So strange... anyone else?

Yes! I have the same issue. I also lose an occasional O.

When you "lose" the ink, are you set at ink is (i) handwriting only (ii) drawing only, or (iii) whatever OneNote decides it is?

I think it has happened in both handwriting only and letting onenote decide.

I have noticed a slight lag when using "let OneNote decide" mode as it figures out what to do with my last stroke and I make new ones. I can't say it always happens on the same letter, but the first several millimeters of a new stroke.
I haven't seen it in draw only or handwriting only.

Is this "refresh" available online anyplace, or do they mail it to you?

I had a bad feeling while I was typing it that it would turn out to be a dumb question. Suffice it to say that I now have a copy of the refresh. This will teach me not to stay current on all threads on this board.

Not yet. I'll try it tonight during my bio class (oh so painfully easy). At least it gives me time to fool around with onenote :D

OK I tried it. When you try to use ritepen in onenote, ritepen takes over. So what you end up it ritepen sending text to onenote, and onenote getting handwriting.
The thought occured to me this would be great way to compare ritepen versus ms handwriting recognition since it will be the exact same writing sample.
I'll play with it later.

Rite Pen and One Note only work together if you use the select tool to insert a new line for typing, then let fly with RitePen. the drag is that if you want to use the pen, RitePen and One Note write at the same time. I just turn RitePen off when using One Note.
