My better half works at two hospitals, as does her boss - the chief of staff of said hospitals. He owns a blackberry so he's not completely tech illiterate but he would prefer to keep himself organized with his own handwriting.

Off the top of my head, the following would likely be his requirements:
- Probably Windows 7 Pro to connect to the hospitals' domains and exchange servers
- Dual core preferred, he doesn't want to be waiting on the system
- SSD for the same reasons and ruggedness.
- Stylus, digitizer and software to easily convert handwriting to editable text. OneNote or better, I presume.
- Full day battery or close to it.
- 10 or more inch screen, viewable in sunlight would be nice
- Option for 3G would be a perk
- some sort of keyboard option / dock
- If it were ruggedized, wouldn't be a bad thing

I'm typing this on my beloved HP TC1100 which I have yet to find a suitable replacement for, and aside from a loud fan and poor battery life, I don't really have a need to. Point in case, I'm familiar with consumer grade tablets but I'm guessing something a little more professionally targeted might be in order.

Suggestions appreciated!

since you say "some sort of keyboard option/dock", I assume a slate instead of a convertible. I think you are pretty well describing a Motion J3500 tablet. It has everything you are asking for.

Awesome! At quick glance, it looks like the perfect solution for him. I'll look into this further. He'll likely be looking for comparables - are there any in this class?

The research begins!

The only other company that makes a similar device is Tabletkiosk i440D.

I've heard of tabletkiosk, never really took a look at their products though. Will do. I just noticed mention of the Motion CL900 on the homepage. It looks great... if only it had more power behind it than oaktrail. The N550 processor in our Asus 1015PN netbook hasn't really impressed me much with respect to performance (sure, battery is great though).

I'm wondering... does anyone know if Motion is planning a J3500 successor maybe based on Sandy Bridge? Ideally, all the J3500 has to offer in a smaller / lighter package with longer battery life would be amazing.
