So,
I'm trying to understand the functional value of more ram and core2duo processors. The more I read, the more I feel like it's all about multitasking and not about running a single application more fluidly.

I've read that 32bit os will only apply 2gb to a single task at a time. If so, do I get a whole lot more out of having 3gb versus 2gb, if my goal is to just run one art application at a time?

I've also read that Core2duo processors are really about multithreading/multitasking, and not really about applying more processing power to a single task at one time. Is this true? If so, do I actually get any more processing punch out of a Core2Duo 1.5 ghz processor versus a single 1.5 ghz processor when I'm running an program like Artrage or Sketchbook Pro? It seems like the Core2Duo's are really about multitasking.

I'm trying to understand, in part, for the usage of running, say, one program at a time, like Artrage or Mozilla or Sketchbook Pro or Open Office, if I could be doing just as well with a simpler, less expensive machine. ???
