Hi, I am looking to buy a new tablet notebook for University, and I've been looking at the HP Touchsmart tm2t. I'm very new to the tablet world, and while I had been using last year's Fujitsu model at school (they provided), I did not like it, plus its out of my price range.

I have been looking at the HP touchsmart, and so far, it seems to be the best one, but I want to know if there are any other models/brands that would be better for university students? I will need to use the tablet mode to take notes during lectures, and I also listen to alot of music, and watch movies, plus the usual internetting

Tab: You should also consider the Lenovo X201; many users are very happy with it.

If money is an issue, then I have one other suggestion: Get a refurbished Dell XT2. Refurbished XT2's sell for about 1/2 to almost 1/3 of a new unit and many are, in fact, essentially new. Users who have bought refurbished XT2's very seldom have anything adverse to say about them.

HP makes a good tablet, but personally I think that the Dell and Lenovo products are better...

Good luck with your decision...

do the dell and lenovo screens have where you can shut off the capacitive screen and use active pen activated digitizer only? the reason I ask this is because note-taking for me is best on pen only screens. I'm just curious- I have an old tc1100, and not looking to change at this point.

<<...do the dell and lenovo screens have where you can shut off the capacitive screen and use active pen activated digitizer only?..>>

...You don't shut off the Dell capacitive screen, you simply select Pen-Only mode. There's also a Touch-Only mode.

Can't speak for the Lenovo (but I think it also has selectable modes).

There's also a nice little program to turn touch off called TouchControl. I can't post links, but it's the 3rd result in a Google search for Touch Control Tablet.
