So I want really bad a really, exclusively outdoor tablet (can be slate, or convertible, or UMPC).

But I want something bigger than 7", but not as big as the only one I know is trully good under direct sunlight (70% of the time I can't see clouds here in the CA Desert) is too big: The Fujitsu Stylistic 5111 (and the like: 4xx1, 6xx1, etc.) - there's too many waste of space around the screen (if it were only about the size of that screen, that would be great!).

So I'd like to see something with 8.4", 9" or even 10.4", but nothing bigger. Other than Toshiba's "transreflective" - of which I'm not sure it works, and it's big, I'm not sure what else is out there.

Everything else is secondary. I can use external HD, pen or touch, etc. But I want to see the screen, not reflections and glare.

Any help?

Thanks a lot!

RH.

Rip: The only thing I can think to suggest is Motion's J3400. I haven't actually handled one, but it is reputed to have excellent daylight viewability. See:

...and other posts in the Motion forum. Note that the j3400 is, however, a full-sized slate with a 12.1" screen.

Thanks! (never heard of it).

I'll check it out!

Depending on your price needs, you could choose a used Motion LS800 with View Anywhere Display (8.4") or a rugged (but expensive) unit from MobileDemand or Roper. A middle of the road choice would be the Motion F5 with View Anywhere (10.4") display.

Thanks for the pointers, I'm off to research them now.

I'm scared of the apparent different technology behind the "viewanywhere" and "ultra" viewanywhere found in the Motion Computing units. Different tablets perform differently (LE 1600/1700? then the LS 800 and the F5)...let's see if I can sort them out.

Thanks. :o
