I'll try to be as thorough as I can. Keep in mind, rather a n00b on this one. I guess. I haven't gagued my own computing obnoxiousness.

I've got as much as $350 to spend in total. I'm currently looking at two sales on eBay.

...I can't post URLs, but one of them's an HP tc4400, and the other's an IBM ThinkPad X41.

The HP has: 1GB RAM; 60GB hard drive
The IBM has: 1GB RAM; 40GB hard drive

Both are loaded with Windows Tablet PC, which is fine with me. They both include a stylus and a charger.

I've tried to evaluate my own needs, and both of these seem to suit them. Looking at my family's desktop, whose whole C:\ drive is about 70GB full, I've decided I can cope with as little as 30GB to begin with. The screens are both 10 or 12 inches, which is just fine. I was told 1GB is a good minimum for RAM, so I made sure of that, too.

I'm fairly sure the IBM has that thing where you can use anything to point with it; a friend of mine has a Fujitsu like that. It's something I'd like to have--If I can avoid it, I don't want to worry about losing a stylus that costs $20 or more. The HP, I read here, doesn't, which I could probably cope with if it was significantly better.

I don't have any fancy specific needs for it; it's looking like its use will be mostly drawing and the internet. I don't know if that helps.

So, there. D:

really, i think both those tablets are pretty equal. If you like a touchpad then choose the HP, if you like the eraser head then choose the IBM. I like the build of the X41 pretty well and the only problem I ever had was a broken latch.

the RAM can be easily upgraded on either one as can the hard drive. both can use any stylus for an active digitizer.
