I recently bought a Motion LE1700 and it is coming with Vista Business, but I would like to upgrade it to Windows 7 after a positive experience I am having on my convertable tablet. I am not sure though if I should go for the Home Premium (I qulaify for the student price) or the Pro. I have always leaned toward getting the Pro versions due to the networking capability, but generally only really need Remote Desktop Connect and VPN capabilities. Has anyone had any experience on the Home Premium with Remote connecting and VPNing? I know the Home Premium won't be a host, but can connect to a host and the tablet will not be a host.

Thoughts?

The business version is required to connect to a domain. Remote connect uses the features of the remote computer for connection to the domain so you don't need it for that. In my experience, VPN works fine and will provide all the connectivity that you need. If you are connecting to the school system, you should check with the IT department and make sure.

Thanks. I went with Pro. I just don't want to run into headaches later.

Sorry to bump an old and already resolved thread, but I have a little tidbit that may help someone in a similar situation. If you are purchasing Windows 7 through the online student discount ($30) you can opt for Pro instead of Home Premium. When you get to the point in the transaction where it asks if your school requires you to log on to a domain, select 'yes' and you will get Pro at the same price.

Hope this helps someone!
