So besides the price difference (tc1100 goes for 200 bucks on ebay and the le1700 goes for 850) Anybody have any preferences between these two machines?

It seems the motion machine is closer to current day specs and would be easier to upgrade with ram and such without having to worry about components starting to become scarce for a few more years. I plan on using it for a ditigal sketchbook so being able to draw on it in sketchbook pro or corel painter would be my primary use, with some secondary use for typing and writing.

Or if you have a better option for me feel free to post that too. I'm not really wanting to spend 2000 dollar on one of the current generation tablets but I'd go up to 1000 dollars if the tablet was worth it.

Grumpy: Your thinking is basically correct. The LE1700 is only one generation old, whereas the TC1100 is a few generations old. Many of us like and use our TC1100's (even loaded Win7 on mine a couple of months ago) but I think that most of us would also admit that the TC is definitely getting long in the tooth.

If you ignore the relative ages of both slates, the most significant difference to me is the screen size. The LE1700 sports a 12.1 inch screen whereas the TC1100 has a 10.1 inch screen. Although 10.1 inches is fine for web surfing, e-mail and games, I would guess that a 12.1 inch screen would be better for sketching, but I suppose that's an issue of personal preference.

Other than that, and the relative availability of replacement batteries in the future, I think that either slate might fit your needs. If you check in at the Artist's & Designer's forum, you will probably get some better advice...

Good luck...
