Lenovo today (9/15/09) announced upgrades to the X200 that include true Multitouch input and an upgraded display for outdoor viewing.

Lenovo X200 Tablet PCs with Windows 7 and a Multitouch screen will offer two touch finger input standard. The display supports Multitouch gestures, including pinch, rotate, pan and flicks. Because this display uses capacitive touch it does not require finger pressure. The best example of this technology is the iPhone.

Because they are different screen technologies you will not be able to get the Multitouch capacitive display with the Superbright outdoor panel.

The Superbright Outdoor Panel is enhanced not only for brightness but for low reflectivity. For outdoor viewing, even if you have a very bright screen, if the display has too much reflectivity you will not be able to read it.

The X200 Outdoor screen offers extremely low reflectivity (1.2%) along with 170 degree viewing angles. It also has 400 nits of brightness which is among the top level of outdoor displays. The panel is lightweight so the overall weight of the tablet is not increased.

The above photos compare the X200 with the Superbright outdoor display to the existing unit, first in the front then in the back. Obviously, a dramatic difference.

The Multitouch isn't too useful in the way it's implemented in my opinion.
However, the SuperBright Outdoor panel is worth all the dollars.
This is a great tablet PC!

I think the multi-touch feature on the Lenovo X200 is quite limited to few functions, unlike the Apple phone's multi-touch interface. It needs to be more application-embedded on all applications, including the browser, Microsoft office support and etc. Until then, I think it's only a fancy feature without practical benefits.

How do these screens compare to Motion's View Anywhere ? Say in the LE 1700 ?
