View Full Version : Acer C100 Recovery Discs

Ever have one of those days?

My wife was given an Acer C100 (TMC104TCi), which had been system-wiped for reasons that are somewhat unclear. She was also given a complete packet of ACER discs and manuals. So I assumed this would be a slam-dunk - recover, update, and *poof* instant email reader.

Naturally, the disc/manual packet was for the ACER C110, not the C100.

For giggles, I did try to perform a systems restore from these discs...apparently the C110 used RECOVERY instead of Norton Ghost, and the process actually completes successfully (she was also given a firewire DVD-ROM reader), but the machine can't boot with the installed system (get a blue screen almost immediately when the MS TabletPC splash screen appears, and it then almost immediately switches back to the memory test so I can't even tell what's killing it).

So I have a perfectly fine set of recovery discs I can't use, and nothing for the machine that's actually sitting here. I checked ACER, and of course they no longer sell recovery discs for the C100 (hey, it's seven years old, so I can't exactly blame 'em); still, I'd like to get the thing at least somewhat operational, and so would appreciate any suggestions.

A set of original C100 recovery discs arrived "over the transom" and while I had the same problem everyone else seems to have with disc swapping, I was able to follow instructions elsewhere on the Net and create a monolithic boot DVD to restore the machine.

I'm going to hang onto both the C100 and C110 recovery discs, in the unlikely but always possible event someone needs a replacement disc or two. Since the license follows the machine, the discs work only on the specific ACER machines, and ACER no longer sells the recovery discs, I see no moral or ethical problem with providing replacement ISOs for emergencies like mine.

hi there....

Trying to reinstall the original hard disk image of Microsoft Windows onto this Tablet PC the System Recovery fails using the four CDs provided when the system recovery utility asks for the first recovery CD. The System CD is ejected and the user is prompted for the first Recovery CD, but the CD cannot be read and the PC sometimes locks up.

Well-known issue. Search the web for instructions on creating a monolithic DVD that contains all of the recovery discs, and install from that.

Please re-read the thread, especially my post of 07-09-2009 (which you quoted).

I just used an OEM version of windows xp tablet. Seems to work fine (and you can leave out the cruft that slows it to a crawl)

Does anyone still use this thing? I have a C100, but I would like to upgrade to the C110 - I really don't know why the C110 isn't way more popular...
