As far as I can tell, Write Anywhere is not as customizable with regard to gestures. For example the gesture to erase a word or character etc.

Can anyone confirm this?

Comment:My goal is to write directly into third party applications. TIP will work but with limited real-estate I would rather write directly on the screen. I have installed Pen Office and that is very workable for me, since I have been using it for years and am accustomed to the gestures which do work fine.

Edit: Caps kill

I have not found a way to customize gestures in the TIP or Write Anywhere.

TIP has them http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/tabletpc/using/howto/gestures.asp

I am familiar with the existing gestures, which will handle scratch out.

I may have misunderstood, but I thought the question was whether or not it was possible to add new custom gestures.

Thanks for your reply. I could have been more clear:-)

I wanted to avoid the TIP panel in my face by using WA with third party applications. With WA it appeared that the use of many or all "gestures" was not applicable. The ability to highlight and delete especially.
It may be a moot point for me now, as I am using Pen Office. I already have those gestures memorized from Calligrapher on my PPC as well as using Pen Office on prior Tablets.

I have been able to use the gestures native to the TIP with Write Anywhere, if that helps.

Open notepad, turn on Write Anywhere, and give it a try.

Still not sure this helps you.

It does if I give it another try;) I tried the erase gesture a coupld of days back with Write Anywhere and it was totally clumsy for me. I should have tried more. I used the same gesture with Tip and it was fine. Might be me. So you are saying that those gestures work just as well for you with TIP or WA?

Yes. The gestures work for me in both settings.

Well, digital doc, I just bit the bullet and bought Pen Office, because I had a 20% off coupon code good only until today from Phatware.

I didn't do it for the writing anywhere feature--I am perfectly happy with the native Tablet handwriting recognition and with the writing pad of the TIP.

However, I finally decided I couldn't do without Pen Commander! As we discussed quite a while back, in my opinion the Pen Commander macros are the best feature of Calligrapher for Pocket PC, and while I thought I could do without them on my Tablet because I didn't need the other Pen Office features, I was wrong about that. :D

Have you downloaded and tried out Visual Pen Commander? (It's the newish free desktop or Tablet utility for creating Pen Commander macros). I just downloaded that too after my purchase, and am about to try it out.

I grabbed the free Visual Pen Commander the very first day it came out, a couple of months ago, I believe :-)
I use the VPC to make my macros and then I can copy and paste them from my Ipaq to my Tabletpc. They work interchangeably.

FYI: I did read something to the effect that when using Pen Office with Write Anywhere, one needs to turn off pen office and then turn it back on. I have to research my statement, but I did read something in that regard and can't remember where, perhaps here:
