Yesterday I installed the windows 7 beta on my LE 1600. Because I have no external DVD I decided to install widows from my usb flash drive. Therefor I used a Flash Voyager GT from corsair. So here is a little howto:

How to get the widows 7 bootimage on a flash pen drive:
First of all we have to format the pen drive and set the partition as active. Therefor I used diskpart.
Start -> run -> diskpart.exe
type lis dis to show all local drives
detect your flash drive by size and get the number
make sure you have the correct drive number
type sel dis x (where x is the number of your pen drive)
type lis par to list the partitions
type sel par 1 to select partition one
type format fs=FAT32 LABEL="Windows 7" QUICK OVERRIDE to format the selected partition without further confirmation
type active to set the partition as active

Now we have to extract the bootimage we got from Microsoft:
I used winrar to extract the ISO-file to my harddisc (not to the pen drive)
then start cmd.exe and change to the directory where you extracted the ISO
type cd boot and then bootsect /nt60 F: Where F: is the drive letter of your pen drive
After that just copy all files from the ISO to your pen drive

Now we can boot the LE 1600 from our pen drive (perhaps you have to change the boot order in the bios). Installation is very quick but you'll need a USB keyboard because the pen is not supported during setup.

here I found some amazing Information about driver setup for the LE 1600 so almost everything works great even the fingerprint reader works without this crappy omnipass software.

First Impressions:
I would never change back to vista! Windows 7 is much faster than vista everything I need works fine and boot time is less than one minute to logon screen.
Just try, you won't miss vista ... Ok, that's not too hard ;)

You can upgrade directly to Windows 7. Try to download the Windows 7 32 bit ultimate RC1 from microsoft asap. You can use it for free until June of 2010.

Enjoy!

I just installed Windows 7 RC 1 on my LE1600 today. It found the authentec driver, but didnt find the sound driver, and the TPM driver. After I installed the Motion Dashboard ((le1700 version) it auto installed the Blue tooth.

Good luck!

I am running XP tablet and the above didn't work for me and I had a terrible time searching all over the net for a method that works and none did, except for the following:

I created a partition with the info and program (Easeus Partition Manager) in this video:

How to Dual Boot Windows 7 with Vista or XP - Cnet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTFdwWm5F3A

I mounted an iso on my 8 Gb USB drive with the program and info in this link:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=7850

1) Download the free UltraISO trial
2) Start UltraISO as administrator
3) "Burn" the iso image to the USB stick
(http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=7850#) by following these steps

With UltraISO:
- Open the image of Vista/Win7 with UltraISO
- Under BOOTABLE tab choose WRITE DISK IMAGE
- Choose your USB stick under "Disk Drive"
- Choose a method (It's recommended to use USB-HDD+)
- Press Write
- Make sure to change your BOOT order in BIOS to boot from your USB drive first

THAT IS ALL!!!
If you read the comments underneath, there is mention of a new USB stick with "U3" technology, that makes the above program unnecessary.

That doesn't sound good at all.

I don't know what you can do about that, as it sounds like the pen drive is faulty. There are places you can go to that extract data from faulty harddrives, but from what I understand that can cost thousands of dollars.

Perhaps you can take it to a local computer repairs store and ask them if they can crack it open and take a look at the electronics as it sounds like a hardware issue.

BTW I have read that it is ill advised to use Pen drives for long term back up, as they are not designed for that purpose.

Yeah i have heard the same thing that you shouldn't use the pen drives for long term back up but i can;'t remember where i read it. So I was wondering if anoyone could confirm Liability Insurance (http://cheap-publicliability-insurance.co.uk/)?? because it would be handy to have an easy back up like that :)

Thanks in advance
