I read in another post here that it's possible to install 2 GB on an Acer C111. Is that the case? If so, what should I be asking at the shop?

Also, I want to replace the hard drive with something bigger and faster. I suppose I should opt for a 7200 rpm. Any brand recommendations?

If I remember correctlly, once I re-install XP I need to update the BIOS and video driver. Anything else before I download the various service packs?

Cheers,

Loz

PS I might try installing Win 7 before XP to give it a go.

Check the hard drive upgrade lengthy thread in HP forum for best current hard drive (and why formatting into partitions is essential). Zipzoomfly.com has the 160GB Samsung PATA for $55.

Thanks.

I asked around a few shops today about a HD for my C111 and was told that it's an IDE, whatever that means.

Anyone know if there are any limitations 'imposed' by the bios?

Most likely yes: 120GB limit which can be gotten around by partitioning, within limitations (that's whole point of reading thread suggested).
