Hi everyone.

I am running Win 7 and loving the new tablet features. Big improvement over XP.
My question is:

Since this installation of Win 7 is a beta and will end in August and MS has said there will be no way to move from this installation to a retail copy without reinstalling can I save my application data on the XP partition and have the applications on the 7 side access it and save to the XP side?

Hope the question makes sense. This is the first time I've ever had more than one OS on a machine and I've never had the drive have more than the system partition and the recovery partition that the manufacturer sets up. It has been fun learning how to re-size and create partitions.

You may need to use Computer Management from the Control Panel to give the second partition a drive letter so it shows up in Explorer. Once you have a drive letter for both partitions, yes, you can load an application to the Win 7 partition and save the data files on the XP partition. You will still need to reload the applications, but the stored files will still be accessible from the XP partition.

Quick question.. Is it possible to dual-boot XP 32 Bit and have Windows 7 64 Bit installed on your other partition?

I'm running both 32bit versions right now, but I've got 4gb of RAM on my LE1700 and I'd like to play around with Win7 64bit and see how it handles my programs.

i think it's not work because the applications in 32bit will not work in 64b

Not true. I have plenty of 32-bit apps running under Win 7 64-bit with no issue.:biggrin1:

well i have more good news to report..

i am posting this from the fujitsu 4121, from
within windows 7 ultimate 32 bit...

and i also have installed windows XP tablet 2005, on
the same tablet..

i'm going to try getting vista on here too, since i've
partioned it up as:
================
20 gig main - windows 7
60 gig secondary - [data] -> to be vista
60 gig third - windows tablet XP 2005

most of the xp programs can be installed in windows 7 also.
however, i can't seem to get the sound/video card to work correctly...

i don't think there would be a problem with 64 bit either as mentioned
earlier..

i'm getting a new hp tx1419
with triple boot:
======================
windows 7
windows XP - 64bit
windows VISTA - 32 bit

should be fun to try out,
it should be powerful enough,
amd 2x64-2.2 GHZ..

we'll see...i'm not quite sure how the
boot is setup, i'm getting it preinstalled.

With the right hardware, dual, or even TRIPLE booting, is kind-of pointless. With XP Virtualization in WIndows 7, you get all the benefits of XP without having to dedicate and entire environment to it... All you need is a Virtualization capable processor (Most now are compatible, including the Intel Atom chips) and enough RAM and storage.

again, the problem is that the processor probably WONT
support running XP in a virtual window..

so running it in emulation will just slow it down..

beside, i never really liked Vista, and i'm only starting
to play with windows 7...

the problem with everything after XP service pack 2, is
that almost all my hardware and software didn't work
with Vista, and i doubt it will work with windows 7 either..

as i mentioned earlier, most of my games barely work in XP!

so i'm not really gaining anything by going to Vista, or windows 7,
the drivers just aren't there...

even my palm pilot software didn't work in Vista, which is why
i uninstalled it from my main computer, and downgraded it
back to XP..

i usually take a long time before changing operating systems..

i switched to windows 98 back in 2002... and then moved to NT
4.0 briefly, and then XP back in 2004... i have 0 software programs
that only work in vista, and i doubt i'll be getting anything new
for windows 7 either..

i'm still using office 2003, firefox 1.5, internet explorer 7..

i'm just tired of new bloated programs that don't add anything
to the experience... everything i have (freeware), and older
programs runs just as fast on a pentium 3... if i need to do
video encoding/conversion, etc, i use my dual core desktop..

for these tablets... i don't really need the latest programs..
but i do want to try them out to see if there is any real
improvements..

so far, i haven't really found any with windows vista, or windows 7
(but its still early)..
