I installed windoze xp service pack 3 (final) on my Motion LS800 and subsequently lost function on the SD card reader. So, I reverted back to service pack 2 and behold, my SD card reader was again operational. Thinking it might have been a bad install, I reinstalled service pack 3 and again, lost my SD card reader, so I'm now back at service pack 2. I really like service pack 3 and have put it also on two laptops we have without any problems including with SD card readers. Especially for the older machines, it does give them a bit more snappy response, but I also noticed a little bit of speed increase on the LS800 even though I'm running a 32G SSD and 2gig of RAM. Anyway, back to my problem.

Anyone else have the same issue when upgrading to xp sp3 ??

I like sp3 but don't want to give up my SD card reader. Can't read SDHC (bummer) but I have several of those Transcend 4GB 150x SD cards that are fast and work great.

All help is greatly appreciated by all.

By the way, that final (not beta) release of sp3 is available from the Microsoft website via automatic update

Well, since it has been over a week and no one is responding, I just assume this forum has no other Motion Computing LS800 owners listening.

Last night, XP SP3 came down thru windows automatic update to my wife's LS800 and the same thing happened to hers. Now, since I also received that update, neither one of us have a SD card reader.

Odd thing is that the system recognizes the card, and offers up the customary beep when entering the card and again, when extracting the card, but it doesn't show up in the file manager and is not available for use.

Strange / Frustrating.

Hi,

I only recently got my LS800, but since I don't currently use an SD Card, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help. I am interested though to hear if you have any luck solving your issues. Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Regards

PF

There was a prior to SP3 hotfix for XP that got support for SDHC in internal card readers. Maybe reapplying that hotfix might work.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, that won't work since that fix was prior to sp3 and can't be applied after installing sp3. Apparently, the hotfix must be included in sp3 so the windows installer won't do it.

I have an LE1600 and the same thing has happened. As mentioned, the MS Windows fixes for SDHC or SD card slots do not work as the fix was included in SP3. The specific issue is the standard MS device driver shows up in the Device Manager, under Disk Drives, for the SD Memory Card, with a yellow exclamation and the message "Device cannot start (error code 10)". Doing troubleshoot says to uninstall and reinstall the device driver but this does not help. Seems Motion may be doing something non-standard and we need a new device driver specific from them. I will put a request in there and see what they say. Likely, we may have to revert back to a Motion device driver that will hopefully be compatible with SP3.

For those looking for SDHC capability, see Motion Computings notice now posted for the LE1600/LS800 on 22 Sep 2008: /kb/article.aspx?id=10410&cNode=1S5A7J (note: it would not allow me to post a full URL as I am a new user)

Update (29 Sep 08): Motion Computing support has confirmed this is an issue they are working on (loss of SD card use with XP SP3). They hope to develop a fix soon.

FYI. Below is the pertinent posts from the thread on Toshiba's website.

http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=119902

"With a little help from MS support I've fixed this issue. In this hopes that it helps someone else, this is what I did.

1. Uninstall SP3, and reboot into SP2.
2. Copy the following files from c:\windows\system32\drivers to somewhere safe: sdbus.sys, sffdisk.sys, sffp_sd.sys. I put them on my desktop. They should all be version 6.0.4061.1
3. Install SP3, and reboot.
4. Shutdown, and restart using F8 to go into Safe Mode.
5. Log in as Administrator (or another account with admin rights)
6. In C:\windows\system32\drivers rename each of sdbus.sys, sffdisk.sys and sffp_sd.sys.to have a .old extension.
7. Copy the files you saved in step 2 to c:\windows\systems32\drivers
8. Shutdown and restart normally.

And that's it. Hope that helps.

regards
Doug.

Thanks for this Doug - I've only just taken SP3 and found the same problem.
However, being lazy I didn't really want to drop back to SP2 and then roll forward again unless I had to.
I went looking and found the old drivers still lurking around on the system (in my case they were in C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$).
Renaming the "new" ones and replacing with the old ones seems to have done the trick!

Roger"
