I've been mostly happy with my P1610, though I actually think the screen is pretty crappy in the sun. My big problem is the machine has recently started to run extremely slowly, and nothing I can figure out will get it back to normal. I have tons of free space on the HD, checked for trojans with several programs, deleted lots of startup programs, no viruses, got rid of all unnecessary files (temp files), have run a couple of reg cleaners....all to no avail. (I also tried going to earlier "restore" points, but I cannot find anything to restore more than 2 weeks old.) I'm at the point where I think I should restore the operating system, but I'm running into some difficult problems. I previously was able to change the OS from Win98 to Win200 on my LTC-500 so I thought the process might be similar...but it isn't similar enough I guess.

I don't have a floppy drive to boot this computer so I have made up a USB bootable memory stick and I changed the boot sequence to boot from USB first. So far so good....I can boot to DOS. I put DOS files on the USB stick to enable my Addonics PCMCIA DVD/CD drive, but the drive is not seen. I imagine this is because I have not installed DOS drivers for the PCMCIA slot first. This is where I am stuck. Can somebody advise me how to get (and use) drivers in DOS for the PCMCIA? The Addonics drive worked fine on the LTC-500, but I had previously booted from Win2000 floppies which seemingly must have loaded drivers for the PCMCIA slot...I could do that again, but I'd need to find a bootable floppy drive first and I'm trying to avoid that. Any help will be much appreciated!!
