I went ahead and got the X61, which arrived Monday. Since then I've mainly been trying to get it set up with the programs and files I was using on my previous laptop so that I can actually get back to work.

But... what suggestions do other users have for this tablet? Does the sticky on the X41 pretty much hold true for X61? (I don't really feel like reinstalling, especially since the machine is pretty lively, but I'd be happy to get rid of stuff I won't need, or to get things out of Startup that don't need to be there.)

First, I'm sure that lots of people love the security features on this machine, but I've concluded I really don't want to use them. I deleted the password for my user profile, so that took out one step, but it still wants me to click on my user name, and the password manager application (I forget what it's called) comes up every time I try to log onto a website. I thought it would just remember my passwords for me and insert them, but it wants me to type them in twice. I am not doing much that's exactly high-security, and this will drive me mad. How do I shut this off?

I've also run into a couple of strange problems. I can't get Acrobat (from CS3) to install--it causes the BSOD. It seems like I had a little trouble installing this on the previous tablet, but I don't think that more than one or two BSODs were involved. I've had 4-5 on this and it's a huge waste of time. Also, I tried defragging last night with the preinstalled Diskeeper Lite, and that also (not immediately) brought on a BSOD. What's causing this weirdness?

That's enough questions for one post, I think.

what OS do you use?
i would uninstall everything you do not use and then go form there instead of all the steps need to do a clean install

Go to Computer properties and select checkdisk, let reboot and take its time looking for bad sectors. A few will be remapped automatically. More than a few signals defective drive (it happens even brand new).

Did you install more RAM? You may need to download and burn Memtest to CD and let run overnight scouring for errors. Zero is only acceptable. Also, adding RAM changes pagefile default size and if broken into two pieces can cause BSD defragging.

Roboform takes care of all web filling. Freeware limited to 8-10, paid unlimited forms auto-filled.

Is Acrobat Vista or XP ready? If XP select properties and run setup in compatibility mode for XP. Launching installer right-clicking first to run as administrator always wise.

Thanks for the suggestions. I realize I should have specified that I got XPTablet on this machine.

Chkdsk ran automatically on bootup a few days ago and found what seemed like more problems than I would have expected on a new laptop, but I don't recall how many.

I haven't yet installed more memory, although I plan to, so new memory shouldn't have caused any problems.

This weekend I'm away from home but when I get back I'll try the suggestions on Acrobat. Photoshop is installed and working fine, and as I say I did get both programs installed on the previous XP laptop, using the same set of disks, but... well, we'll see. If I still can't get it to install, I may make a tech appt at school.
