Hi,

I just saw an announcement for the SC-4000 over at the Electrovaya site, and just thought I'd pass the info along.

Anybody seen a price yet?
I went to the site and went to the "Buy" screen to see how much it would cost loaded up. But it looks like it isn't available yet.

Electrovaya is a battery company that is sagacious enough to put their battery in a TPC. This is my thoughts only, but, in the past it was Tatung, and now it seems to be http://www.amtek.com.tw/index.htm.

I wonder if the iPod was made by Amtek. http://www.medicaltabletpc.com/content/view/267/. Made by Amtek.

sagacious... I had to look that one up.

Still no price on the SC4000, but the 3100 is reduced in price.

I've been using a Scribbler 4000 for the last two weeks. I'm going to install Vista SP1 this afternoon.

Does it have a keyboard? I noticed the attachable keyboards for the 3000 series are out of stock but I see nothing for this new series.

Hi digitaldoc

1.Do you mean the 4000 does not have a keyboard or cover that comes with the unit ?
2.How is the performance ?
3.I'm hoping to get an upgrade to my fujitsu t4020 tablet as my main unit in my offices and transferring my Dragon Nat. speak version 8-medical .....do you have voice recog loaded on the unit and if so how does it perform?
4.Any other comments also would be helpful.

Dan,

No keyboard on the one I am testing. That does not mean it does not come with one. Check the EV sight. Performance is great because of the new chips. I'm still waiting on the long life battery. This unit has Vista Ultimate and only one gig of Ram so I added another. I recommend 4 gigs with Vista Ultimate. (the OS can't use all 4 but other hardware can,ie video).

I've installed Dragon Dictate Medical Version but have not had time to test fully. DNS Medical works fine on an old Scribbler. Fingerprint work very well and rapidly becomes addicting, especially for a slate. I don't have camera software on this early unit but the camera works. I'm not crazy about the LCD touch panel that manipulates the screen and other variables. I've spent most of my time with a Belkin N card and Belkin N router with this unit, while waiting for a 75 Whr battery.

thanks digitaldoc,

1.how many hrs do you get w/ the standard battery ?

2. as you prob have read on the other EV posts the concensus on EV service is abysmal at best...how has your experience been w/ them ?,... and obviously it has not swayed you, unless they give you devices for promotion..

3. this would be a major drawback for me as fujitsu has been great.but the stylistic is just too bulky and w/o a KB.

thanks again

I don't use any power saving at all and might make it from 9-12pm. I have my screen on full brightness, constant wifi and am connected to a database on my server in the other room. Battery is not an issue because I have a 3100 in wait with a 6 hour battery life, again with no power savings.
I've been using Tablets daily since 1986, and wireless since 99, so software tech is not an issue for me.
However, when I have had a hardware issue, EV tech was right on it. I always call a vendor before buying to see how quickly one can actually talk to tech. ( I did this with EV before I ever bought one). Even if you are not in their database yet, because you are not a buyer, I ask a question or two that only tech can answer. This should give you and idea. EV is infamous for their tech support, but according to what I NOW read on their web page, they have 24/7 support. Time will certainly tell. No doubt that tech support is over seas but it has to be better than before.

Hi, DigitalDoc, I've got quite a few questions. I've bought a Scribbler 4000, and have had it about a week. It came with no manuals, no quick start guide, nothing. There seems to be a couple of flaws in my unit, as well. I won't go into that, as I'm in touch with the EV folks on that, but did yours come with any documentation? They tell me that it will be a week or more before a manual is even available. I've never heard of that before, and I've bought many computers, three of them tablets. It's quite frustrating. I don't know what half the stuff does, and even though I checked the webcam in the Device Manager, and it's enabled, I have no clue how to turn it on. Do you have documentation on yours? Thanks for any help, and what is that white slider thing on the right side? [?] I think I'm going to love this thing, if I can ever figure out what it does.

Hah! I thought I had no docs because it was a test unit. Anyway, go to http://www.amtek.com.tw/english/Products_itablet_T200=04.htm and see what you can find. I downloaded one of their manuals. Acutally, I think Amtek emailed me a manual. Let me see if I can get an update. Are you using the normal battery or 75wh and what kind of run time are you getting?

They don't have the "good" battery yet, so it's a very poor battery. About 2 hours; max of 2 and a half. Thanks for the link. I'll go there and give it a try. I'm really angry about them even sending it out without any documentation. It's unheard of, in my experience. But it's a beauty, and I want so much for it to work. Do you have any issues with strange error messages ("unknown USB device, etc." and there's no device plugged in) or freezing? Thanks so much,
Gatewood

The messages your are getting sounds like some external device ie flash drive? Anyway, not a problem here with freezing or error messages. Using Vista Ultimate. I'm guessing that EV gets the manual from Amtek? What does EV tell you when you call and ask for the manual or some instructions? That is crazy! I'm sure you will get it all ironed out but, but sales should have informed you. Make sure you look on drive D for any manuals or information.

I'll check Drive D again, but it's really not there. Tech support tells me that "manuals will be here in a week or so" and it's been that long already. I was unable to find a manual on the Amtek site. I couldn't even find a search button. Is there a particular Amtek tablet that's similar to the Scribbler 4000? My last email from Tech Support was two days ago and she said she would get back to me "ASAP" and I still haven't heard. I've written again, and will probably call the guy in sales today that I have talked to in the past. He's been helpful in getting me in touch with Tech Support, but they have dropped the ball now. I'm quite a bit annoyed. And there's no flash drive or anything plugged into the "unknown" port. Both my USB ports function well. I just get that message. The ports function even when I disable the "unknown device." Weird.

<<

Sounds like it found hardware but no device drivers. If EV had the manuals etc, they would send them to both of us. They may be dependent on the manufacturer. Call EV and talk to your sales guy or Jay Pathak.
