Hi. I'm thinking of reinstalling the XP Tablet OS on my TC4200, but I don't own an external optical drive. I thought about using my desktop DVD drive through the network, but realized that the moment the OS begins to install, I will lose the network drive and probably will not be able to continue with the installation. Is there a way to reinstall the XP Tablet OS without an external optical drive?

I don't think it is possible; however, go to Wal-Mart get an external drive reinstall it and then return the drive the next day. It is well within their return policy so you are not breaking any rules. Good Luck.

You can buy a USB cradle on ebay, that may fit your DVD drive.

I'm starting to understand that the only really practical way to restore the hard drive is to have the HP/Compaq docking station and CD drive. If you still need help with this, I'd be glad to help you out. I'm getting the equipment needed to do this, and I'd be glad to make you a copy of the hard drive once it's freshly installed to the factory image.

- So i tried reinstalling with the my desktop and it doesn't work. It will load the os but it wont load into windows.

- You can reinstall windows this way: If you have an external hard drive that accepts IDE drives.

What youll need: External IDE hard drive and Desktop DVD or CD Rom.

How To:

1. Open up your external hard drive. Make sure it's an IDE connection.
2. Remove the IDE hard drive. Power cable and IDE cable.
3. Remove your DVD or CD ROM from your desktop
3. Plug the power and IDE cable from your external to your DVD or CD ROM.
4. Connect it to your tablet and boot from removable drives.

I just recently upgraded my hard drive to a 120GB 5400RPM and reinstalled with XP PRO. Works fine without any issues. I plan on ordering a XP Tablet Edition recovery soon.
