need to clean reinstall my poor abused m200 hard drive as many things are breaking and upset. I don't have a bootable cd drive (I have an iomega drive) and no external floppy drive.
I have been trying to work out (again) how to make a sd bootable disk, so that I can boot to dos and use the recovery cd from there.
However, I have no idea how to make the sd disk. I can create boot -up CD's and restore discs, but even when i copy those onto my computer it's in ISO or nero's native format, not the .img file of the floppy the sd utility needs. My iomega drive calls for a floppy restore disk to be inserted to make the cd image. Wonderful.
I was using nero 8 express to create .iso files.

Can anyone tell me how to make the img file to put on to the sd card with the utility without a floppy? I'm sorry if it seems a silly question, I've read around the forum and I still can't figure it out.

Also, I was discussing this with my partner who wanted to know why I couldn't just copy the entire recovery cd to the sd card and use that instead?
Can that be done?(I would imagine if it COULD be done, there wouldn't be all the effort to find bootable external drives and make restore sd's, but I thought it was worth asking. )
&if it can't be done why not?Is it because it won't be actually bootable?

Well to make an SD card bootable you need to have a disk image named "$TOSFD00.VFD" in the root dir of the SD card.

I have successfully made large images, but my success ended with a 120MB file, not nearly large enough for a CD or DVD. Anything larger than that I could not boot and I think it has to do with the img file format.

the VFD is "virtual floppy disk" format. it is basically a byte for byte rip of ewhat a floppy looks like as a flat file.
