I've just upgraded to the Toshiba Tecra M4 from my HP Compaq TC1100, and the first thing I've noticed when using it is the noise difference, the TC1100 was pretty much silent unless you were pushing it and even then the fan would only come on shortly give a quick blast and then shut off to silent again.
The M4 on the other hand seems to almost constantly run the fan. Any solutions to this? I have read somewhere something about overheating issues and undervolting the CPU?

Better get used to it. I've had my 2 plus Ghz machine for two years now and the fan has been running hard since day one. I have a laptop cool pad on for my desk setup and that helps to keep it reasonable. I've also tried dropping the chip speed but since that is software driven on Intel it hasn't made that much difference. Ear plugs? Sound deadening earphones? Good luck!

go to www.pbus-167.com and down load the Notebook Hardware Control... I have the 2Ghz processor and run it at 1.132 volts for 2.00Ghz and .780 volts for 800Mhz.
She runs nice and quite. If she gets a little warm tho the fan will kick on so when I am taking notes in lecture and that happens I just use the Notebook hardware control to change the CPU speed to 800mhz and that will quite it right down.
I have been using this program for over a year and a half and have 0 problems with it.
