Hi folks,
Got my le1600 from ebay yesterday. It came with the hd blank (but valid license for tabletpc 3005 - which I knew), but I have been unsucessful in booting from cd. Can anyone help here?

I also bought a 1gb ram module from newegg and popped it in figuring that even though I can't boot up yet, I could see the ram register on loading. But no. Neither the bios(whish says it has 512m system ram), nor the bootup screen (whish says 640m) seem to register the ram. But it is also possible that neither of these is designed to display user added modules, only what is fixed. Can any of you tell me what you get and if I should be returning this module?

I have a usb enclosure for 1.8 zif drives coming, and restore disks from motion. What would REALLY be helpful since I can't seem to boot from CD, is if someone had a harddrive image of a working os I can copy over. A dos image would be great! Tabletpc would be even easier (I can change the sn to the one from my machine easily enough) but some folks might be skittish about that. I run trueimage, but have a copy of ghost around somewhere. Can anyone help?

Barring any of the above, does anyone have any further suggestions on how to get the os on a blank zif drive??? I've spent the last 24 hours looking at a very pretty machine and it's nice, but boring boot-splash screen.

edit (post wouldn't let me edit)
The le1600 comes with a valid license for Windows TabletPC Edition 2005. (Does motion even sell any machines without a windows license?)

caunt,

email peteh@alltp.com - he is one of my tech guys and can help.

also, for the memory, it should recognize it with no problem unless it isn't seated properly (which we've found happens frequently).

John,

You were right on target with the RAM <embarrassed grin>
The ram slot clicks when you insert a stick, but that's not where it needs to stay as you can still see 1/2 of the contact surface, and it has to go down till that's mostly hidden. Guess I'm too used to desktop systems where the RAM stays don't click shut till it is really seated.

IT WORKS!

Thanks to all of you for you help and encouragement!!!!!!!!

Wow, I love this machine.
Turns out (after all this) that it really was a loose cable after all. Doesn't matter though, this was worth all the hassles. . . a really nice tablet that I can afford (thanks to ebay).

I fell in love with tablets when I bought my fujitsu 3500 from ebay to replace my zaurus(on which the screen was too small for me). I was only going for a bigger screen (in my price range,) but ended up loving all that tablets are capable of. The biggest problem with that machine was the screen.

I LOVE this screen. I am convinced that as far as tablets go, you need to buy for screen quality as first priority, and cpu, etc are all runner-up considerations.

I love a happy ending...or beginning.
