View Full Version : TC1100 SD Card runs only in PIO Mode

Hi all,
my "new" used tablet only runs my 1GB SD card in PIO Mode and I was wondering if that is a solvable problem or a design problem (like the problem that the chip is not able to handle more than 1GB SD cards). On my own all guides to force or enable DMA mode didn't help me with it :(

Sorry to bump this, but can at least anyone confirm that a SD-card runs in PIO mode for them as well or even better, can anyone say that it runs in DMA mode for him/her?
To check, insert SD-card, go to device manager, go to "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller" and there doubleclick the "Texas Instruments PCMCIA Secure Digital Controller" and look at the advanced settings page whether Device 0 runs in PIO or DMA.
Thanks

Like you, my 1 GB card in my TC1100 is running in PI0. The setting in Device Manager is set for "DMA if available".

What is the difference between the two modes?

The difference is speed and it's a huge difference. On PIO mode I get file transfer "speeds" of about 200-500 kbytes/s, hooking the same card up via USB I get speeds from 3000-7000 kbytes/s.
I guess the device is set up to be that slow :(

Thanks for confirming it.

sorry to bump it again, I'm just wondering if someone with 512 MB SD Card can confirm that it also only runs in PIO mode. Thanks.
