Does anyone think that we will see an LS800 system refresh in the near future? I have been waiting since last Christmas.

System refresh = LS900?

Vista
2 gigs of Ram
A Fan
New Core 2 duo low voltage processor
A little higher Screen resolution
Integrated WAN
A little thiner if possible
Selectible touch / Active Digitizer "like the Sahara."

I don't think that I'm asking for too much.

Take care, Doug

Great minds think alike ! :) I'm also waiting for the exact same specs as dpeters mentions, but would also want an integrated webcam. In this day and age, if my phone has two cameras, I think Motion should be able to add one to the LS900. I need it for teleconferencing and skype.

Good call BurningOrange. A web cam would be a great bonas.

The only reason I don't have an LS800 is the screen resolution (too low). At this point I would be looking for more than that as a reason to buy. Basically everything on Doug's list.

I guess I don't care about the fan if it doesn't overheat without one.

Well lets cross our fingers that we get our wish some day. I have been holding out buying a umpc because I would then still have to carry my X61 with me when traveling. With our virtual LS900 I would only need one machine.

I am a little pessimistic though... Several reasons lead me to think that way: Motion seem to be having problems with the NTrig touch+active digitizer on their LE1700 (hence the delay in shipping them, and their ETA seem to be end of 2007 now!). Wacom also just bought a touch digitizer company, obviously because dual touch+active digitizers are the way forward, but will probably not have a product until late next year (I'm guessing). Motion may want to go with Wacom. Fitting the Core 2 Duo processor into the tight spaces of the LS form factor may be terribly difficult to achieve because of heat dissipation.

So because all of their energy seems to be spent on working out the problems with the LE1700, I don't think we will see a successor to the LS800 anytime in the next year...

Shame, because the LS800 is unique in it's form factor. No other company seems to go anywhere near this, instead going smaller with the UMPC or larger with convertibles...

Yep, it is a shame. The LS800 is the perfect sized machine for a road warrior like myself. A 12 inch tablet in my hands simply doesn't get as much use as a LS800 would because pulling the 12 inch tablet out every time I need to take a note is an incoinveniece when traveling.

I certainly noticed this going from the Toshiba M200 to the LS 800.

Unfortunately, the only change in the LS800 right now is going to a 1.1GHz processor because they are out of the 1.2GHz.

I was updating our Tablet PC Store when I noticed that there have been some changes to the configurations. Your choice now is the LS800 with Standard Display, 1Gb RAM and 40Gb HD or View anywhere, 1Gb RAM and 40Gb HD or VA, 1Gb RAM and 32Gb Solid State Drive. There is no option for a 60Gb HD.

Interesting...

Sorry, the sentence came out a little different from intended. [:I] It's an educated guess on my part: Motion have been pushing back the delivery of their writetouch LE1700 for months since they've announced it back in March 2007. They've even gone so far as to remove the ordering buttons on their website. The "official date" is "late October 2007" now (after a previous "early to mid October" ETA), but a month from then and the website still does not have an order button up and running (and November 2007 is as good as "end of the year" for me ;) ).

Coupled to that, even with the LE1700, Motion's time-to-ship from product announcement seems to be rather poor. This points towards some problem (hardware or software) which they are probably spending tremendous amounts of energy ironing out as well as tearing their hair out.

So I don't expect a LE1700WT to be out in the wild anytime before November, and wouldn't be surprised to see December next as the officially announced date. All these problems and shipping delays reminds me of so many vapourware announcements, it leaves me very little hope for an LS successor. However much I'd like one...

Sorry for the confusion.
