I'm new to the forum but i was hoping someone could help me find a good convertible. At first I was thinking 12.1 was too small and i should get a laptop instead, but I saw the 14"ins and thought it was a good comprimise. Then i looked around the net and couldn't find much that was 14' >< I tried my friends 12.1 the other day and didn't find it so bad, it had a high resolution though and i think thats what made the difference. Can anyone tell me some models they know of that have a high res? (ie. SXGA)

So far i've found:
Toshiba Tecra M4
Toshiba M200
Fujitsu Lifebook T4000
Lenovo X60
Lenovo X61

I think M4 looked pretty perfect after reading some reviews, but its a few years old now so i'm not sure its worth it? I did see that new gateway 14" however I live in australia and they don't sell internationally at all ><

Oh and I'm aiming for something around $1500 (AUD..) but i can go a bit higher if its worth it, was also hoping for 2gb ram so I can run vista (but i think the ram is upgradeable on most laptops?)

[Ps. Tried to edit the original post but it wouldn't let me o.0]

You should be able to find one of those in the slightly used category for the price you ask. If you want a DVD built in then go with the Toshiba or Fujitsu. The Lenovo is the thinnest, lightest convertible of the ones you've listed but you'll need an external USB DVD or to get a Ultrabase docking station.

you could also look around for a Toshiba Tecra M7 which would give you the 14" screen you want although it is discontinued.

thavidu's response (restored after part of the post was lost):

hmm the M7 looks great, though i'm having trouble finding one of the ones with a dedicated graphics card ><. I've heard lots of good things about the lenovo n i think i'll fallback on it if i can't get one of the 14"s.. although it's pretty expensive from what i've seen.

dvd doesn't matter for me. thanks for your help btw :D

hmm the common non-dedicated version of the m7 comes with a Intel GMA 950, is it possible to run games on this do you think? Even if its on lowest settings? Like world of warcraft for example
