I don't know but when ever i ask something about performance upgrade nobody helps me out... are you all like scared of opening your LE1600's... or maybe most people here don't like to develop and advance in technology.

Looks like theres new Centrino Low voltage processors. Can we upgrade ours?
We all also know that LE1600's came defective with major cooling issues. So has anyone tried to change the thermal compound with Arctic Silver 5 or a better Fan with higher RPM and a manual switch?

Oh ya btw that 100GB Toshiba HDD is slow as hell. 4200RPM and 15ms seek. Uh slow... well i dont travel. so i use my externals and other stuff on my network.

Heres the scores under vista out of 5:
processor = 3.2 = Okkkk.... sure i would love to upgrade.
RAM = 4.1 = wow wicked.
Graphics = 1.9 = ewww... sucka
Gaming Graphics = 1.0 = eww... <-- well none of u office dudes use this
HDD = 3.4 = meh... i think that goes to 5.0 with external's

So overall i am seeing that this laptop has become outdated in the market.

Sid: I think you're asking about things that many of the forum member here are reluctant to do. Today's SMT PCB's are worlds away from the through-the-hole designs that many of us grew up with. And you need highly specialized tools and experience to work on many of these boards.

I'm not surprised that few here would undertake to pull a CPU and install an upgrade. And in the narrow confines of a slate or convertible case, routing and installing a heat pipe, for example, is non-trivial.

Note that I'm not saying that you won't find people here who are willing to undertake such things; I'm saying that they are likely few and far between. Sometimes it takes more time than one would ever guess for an interested party to come along...

Have you tried to modify your LE1600 at all with the performance improvements you talk about?
