I have a Motion M1400 ViewAnywhere Tablet that I use for my primary laptop and also for aviation in my airplane.
During normal use on the ground, the spinning hard drive works great but during flights above 10,000 feet there is a potential for a head crash. What I have done is obtain a compact flash to IDE adapter which allows me to use a complact flash card in place of the 2.5" IDE drive. The setup works great and gives me the security I need while flying! I have loaded WinXP tablet edition and all of my Aviation programs on an 8gb compact flash card with over 2.5gb of free space.
Before I fly, I remove the spinning HD and install the CF/IDE adapter. In order to do this I have to remove the 44 pin IDE cable from the HD and connect it to the CF/IDE adapter. I'm afraid the 44 pin IDE cable is going to get damaged with all of the swapping. What I want to do is try and obtain another cable and keep it connected to the CF/IDE adapter and just swap out the devices.
I have called Motion Computing to order this cable and they say they cannot sell me the part directly. They say that the only way I can get this cable is to send the tablet to them or one of their Certified Maintainer Providers(CMP).
The tablet is way out of warranty and they insist that in order to change out this cable; which, by the way, is not defective, is to send the tablet back to them so they can change out the cable.
