Intel Wi-Fi on C110 using Vista Home Premium

Almost everything on my C110 seems to work but the button to turn on the built in Intel Wi-Fi. The current driver is ver 1.2.5.37 for the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter. It's enabled and device mgr says it's working properly. Using Vista Home Premium with 1.25GB RAM & 100GB 7200RPM Hitachi HD. Any help would be appreciated.

Is that the latest "Vista," driver?

Seems to be the correct driver according to this from Intel.

Intel provides driver and Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) Plug-In (Windows Vista IHV service) support for Windows Vista for Intel wireless products not in an ‘End of Life’ (EOL) stage, which are shown below. An exception is the EOL Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection, for which the 1.2.5.37 driver is the Windows Vista driver. No updates are planned beyond this release.

The button you are referring to starts an .exe on your hard drive. I don't have my Acer with me at the moment but it would be good to find out if you even had that file.

Does a dialog box pop up when you press the button? If not, I am guessing you don't have the .exe file. Almost certainly you don't if you formatted and then installed a clean Vista OS. I will check later for you about the specific file and name. It will be on your original disks.

Hardware button likely will never get Vista support. Mobility Center provides alternate key on/off controls, easily set to launch customizing tablet side button functions in Vista's Control Panel Tablet settings. There's doubled functions with each button short/long press programmable. Mobility Center acts as tablet dashboard well if setup open button or shortcut triggered.

Vista's auto-installed default Intel 2100, 2200 and 2945 Wi-Fi drivers provide superior user-experience simply run within Vista's Wireless Network discovery GUI wizard.

Use default Vista ordinary networking for awhile before trying anything else. My completely vanilla automated Vista WiFi setup gives by far best networking connectivity, reliability and performance beyond any OS or platform prior.

The file you want is c:\windows\system32\wchange.exe. If you formatted your drive with Vista, this file will be gone. If you upgraded the OS, it should be there under windowsold. Alternatively you can reinstall it from original disk. You should also be able to remap your hardware buttons in Vista. Hardware buttons are simply physical buttons that act like software shortcuts to programs on your hard drive. The Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 can also be turned off and on from the device manager settings.
