I was reading http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/longhorn_preview_2003.asp, where it mentions Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Version 2 being released around october 2003.
No one will probably actually know, but will we get this as a free update like a service pack, or will it be a separate product, in which case only OEMs can buy, so we won't be able to update to it.
Thanks

They will probably continue with the OEMs only policy, and has MS ever released a whole new os as a feww update?
I doubt it will be possible to upgrade :( I hope so, but doubt it

My guess is as good as anybody else, but I would suppose that version 2 will be free update like a service pack. It will probably just be a few minor modifications so there is no need for a full new OS.

I will be gutted if they dont have an upgrade path where by existing tablet users can update there hardware to the latest OS.
We've heard else where on the forum that W2003 has major performance enhancements and I would hope MS deploy this across all there OS's.
If we cant update our existing machines then the Tablet PC can be an issue, especially if you need to replace the hardware every year to benifit from the new enhancements.
I realise that we will see a new generation of Tablet PC's in the future, but there needs to be some upgrade path for existing hardware.
From a personal point of view this wouldnt impact my decision to go with a Tablet, but if I have to advise clients about investing in this new technology there needs to be a suitable lifespan for the product.
