I'm stepping back into the TabletPC fold after a long break, and have just pulled the trigger on the following -

http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/shop/detail.asp?ProductID=3973&CategoryID=11&SubCategoryID=250

For those not in the UK, and/or not familiar with Morgan, they tend to deal in end of line/remaindered stock

The listed specs do however seem remarkably similar to a model currently on the Toshiba UK site -

http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/productPage.do?service=UK&PRODUCT_ID=122147&toshibaShop=true

The model number of the Morgan supplied PC is PPM41E-00J01XJM, that of the one from the Toshiba website, PPM41E-00J01CHK.

There's a huge price difference here that I can't fathom.

Any guidance/explanation (hopefully not of the "you idiot you just bought a doorstop" variety) would be most appreciated!

From a specs perspective, you're right, they seem the same unit. Different part numbers could mean that Morgan are parallel importing a model that was destined for another market.

As for the major price differential, the two things I'd check and make certain were included in the Morgan build is the multi-drive and the onboard 3G card. Those two components alone could add up to some serious money.

The best bet is to ensure Morgan have a refund policy that let's you return it for a refund if it is not 'as advertised' (civil law should cover you in that instance anyway) and go for it...

Well, it's arrived and it's as promised. Onboard 3G and multi-drive all present and correct.

Absolute bargain, and a beautiful machine!
