I've had a hp TC1100 for about a year....Before i've been able to run on battery....but one day i pulled out the AC cord and the tablet shut down...now i always leave the battery charging, but i "HP Support" said i need a new battery.
When i got the new battery, the tablet does not recognize it....I opened the battery preferences and it doew not even tell me what type of battery (lithium...) it is like it would for the original battery...It says it it charging, but it has like a red line through the battery icon, and when i disconnect the AC cord the tablet will shut down in a few seconds...so I still can not run on battery.
ANy suggestions or solutions??? Thanks in advance.

where did you buy the battery?

Miguel: Agreed; where did this battery come from? Is it an HP / Compaq-brand battery or some third-party battery?
Most importantly... can you return it...?

I bought it from HP...I dont want to have to return it....I am most confident with a genuine HP battery for a genuine HP tablet...I dont know why I cant run on batteries....I dont think its the batteries...i think it has to do with the actual tablet...because what are the chances two consecutive HP batteries malfunction...The only way HP can fix the problem is if I send my whole tablet to them....I cant afford this because my job consists of using the Tablet every day...If i send it to them I wont be able to work for at least one week...Do you have any suggestions on troubleshooting the problem myself.

1) My mother got two consecutive bad batteries from Compaq a few years ago, it is possible.
2)For my TC1100, I just went through a repair ordeal with HP that lasted nearly four months. Be very careful, and very persistent, if you do send the unit in for repairs.

Miguel: My only repair experience with HP was quite good, but I didn't have a tablet problem; I had a keyboard problem. Unfortunately, flecrone is correct, sometimes tablet repairs can drag on.
However, sometimes there's no helping it. I'd advise that you contact HP Tech Support and at least discuss your options. If it's something with the tablet, it's not likely that you'll be able to fix it by yourself...!

I had this problem - there is some play in the battery seating in the socket, if you slide it away from the battery contacts it will lose contact completely, if you slide it towards the contacts it will work. Putting the screw in might help. In my case the battery was fine it was all related to the position.
