I recently had my toshiba m200 repaired. the screen had cracked and there were some power issues. Turns out the mobo was broken and the screen needed replacing. I use the hek out of this thing and loved it for a year. When i had it replaced I decided to have them return it to factory condition because it was starting to slow down with all the poopy apps i had tried out.

When I got it back it seemed slower. I did some checking and it was in fact slower. I had done some benchmarking when i first got it out of excitement.

Is it possible they put on a generic m200 os and not the one specific to my machine? like they put an m205 on here? and would that make a difference? and is there a way for me to put on the factory os that shipped specifically with my pc without having to buy their special drive? can i use a regular USB CRdom drive?

It is just slow as hell now. I can;t even reliably take notes in class anymore. I had it repaired an an authorized toshiba place.

Second, battery. I needed a new battery after about a year. So I got one. however the new battery acts the same as the old. the instant the power cord is unplugged it says "Battery is low, hibernating". Even with a new batter.

I am starting to think this is not a battery issue.

Ideas? Will be happy to post whatever info you like:)
Thanks

Your CPU could be locked at 598Mhz. Check the first post in this forum for information on how to fix the issue. As for your battery, it could be a faulty power regulator module (used to power the laptop and charge the battery). Hope this helps.

If a brand new (I am assuming it is brand new) battery still does it, it is definitely the regulator. That would be a warranty item.

Any M20X image will work on your M200. All Portege and Tecra machines are guaranteed software compatible within the same series, as they were originally built to target the corporate market. And the difference between an M200 and an M205, for instance, is only a set of bundling options.

It certainly sounds like you have the locked processor speed issue. And easy fix, as huydat suggests.
