One week after yr warranty, LCD started with screen going to all red, green, blue, & white. Screen would come back with adjusting LCD slightly, then last week said problem with graphics driver, 6200 unable to start and now have barely readable screen. Tried restore cd's and still have problem, even loading screens have unreadable characters making it hard to know which line is safe mode. Also tried to install other Nvidia drivers. Do you think Motherboard needs to be replaced? Can a new graphics chip be installed? I don't have an extended warranty. Thanks Judy

Hi Judy,

Sad story for a happygirl.

Have you tried connecting to an external monitor? This won't fix anything but might tell us if the problem is the graphics system or the LCD.

Yes, connected it and showed same jibberish characters on ext. monitor briefly then laptop screen went black. Disconnected ext. monitor. Forced restart on laptop would run through scandisk but screen would stay at end of check. Heard windows startup music but screen never advanced from scan disk screen. Had to do recovery disks again to get to windows desktop that says problem with Geforce 6200, same stopped. Has exclamation over it in device manager.

I think you'll have to contact Acer and see if you can get them to give you some kind of estimate. Doesn't sound like a user-serviceable situation to me.

Hi I heard of a similar problem, and I don't remember how my friend solve it... but I remember where he got the information how to solve it. It is a great tech support site that help you deal with all kind of troubleshooting and support issues.

I don't know which Acer you have but here is the page for Acer support (http://www.fixya.com/support/acer/pc_laptops)

Good luck

Gary
