Hello

I was wondering if anyone has set up an external monitor on their tc4200. I've put up one of those large 22' Viewsonic with a res of 1680X1050 that the display driver doesn't seem to offer. Is there a way to get this resolution??

thanks for any ideas.

Hi jom,

Have you tried Viewsonic to see if they have drivers?

I've had to get monitor drivers from monitor manufacturers when my video card did not natively support their resolution.

Yes, a VS driver came with the monitor which even though it was labeled as the correct driver did NOT give a 1680X1050 choice for some reason. I even d/l'd a new set from their site with the same result. I even called VS to talk to someone but they claimed it was up to the internal video card to determine what resolutions I can use. They directed me to the computer manufacterer (HP). Is this latter true or are they giving me the run around?

PS: Maybe the problem is that this monitor has a bit of an odd viewing display??? Is this normally a problem?

I looked up the specs for your graphics adapter:

http://www.intel.com/design/graphics/gma900/

and you should be able to drive a high resolution monitor but the aspect ratio is different.

Your new monitor has a wide-screen aspect ratio and the TC4200 does not.

The specifications page (link above) isn't very clear about all the resolutions supported though so I'm not sure what to suggest.

Does it work if you run
- with the external monitor only?
- with the external monitor as an extended display?

The monitor does work but you're right I can't get an aspect ratio to choose from that works.

I only run with the external monitor only...no need for the extended display. (note: actually both monitors are on at the same time displaying the same thing).

Thanks for the info...
