Hi, this is my first post. From what I've read it sounds like most of you are willing to tackle most any problem or upgrade. I love to tinker, but this tc1100 has been pretty bullet proof till now. I don't have teh docking station.
When I try to turn on the PC I get the Operating System Not found error. I checked the power supply and cables. They seem to be good at 18.9 volts out and not intermittent. My batteries won't take a charge, but the indicator light will come on intermittently.
The power supply indicator light on the tc1100 intermittenly comes on at about half intensity and then full intensity but changes if you wiggel the power plug.
I believe the problem is that the connector on the system board is failed. Can this be replaced or will i need to buy the whole board?
Or am I totally off on the problem?
Thanks.

Hi precision
"Operating System Not found"
That's a problem with the hard drive.
• It could be physical (so reseat the drive), or
• It could be that the master boot record is damaged (search google for fixmbr) but that will be tough if you don't have a bootable external drive or
• There is no operating system on the drive (you didn't mention if you had it working before this point)
Yes - you could have a problem with the power connection - don't wiggle it.
I don't know if it is something you can 'fix' or if you will have to replace the whole board.
Anyway - it sounds like two different problems to me.
Did you ever have it working?

WNewquay,
Thanks for the quick responce.
I have had the problem for a couple of weeks on an intermitent basis.
Usually a power down and restart will get passed the Operating System not Found problem.
I have tried to restart, with no battery, with battery, holding connector, standing on head, no luck.
I don't have a bootable external drive, unless I can boot from a jump dirve?
I reinstalled the hard drive, bur that did not help.
HP says to reseat the RAM. I do not have any extra ram. The RAM on the mother board is deeper than I want to go at this time. I can do it, but have never disasembled til now.
Can I put the hard drive in a more commonly found laptop and recover the data?
Thanks, Precision

I got the TC1100 to boot. I tuned off, unplugged and removed the battery. Then I cycled the power switch a couple of times. I then plugged in the power supply and the battery. When I turned on the pc, it booted.
I am currently backing up the whole thing!!!
Now, is the thing worth reparing? Harddrive, $350, motherboard $1300, Batteries $300.
Thanks

I don't know about the motherboard, but a HardDrive should be <$200 (and that's really good one. Batteries maybe $200 tops. (aftermarket)
You should be ablet find a TC1100 on ebay or refurbished on a good day for less that $1300.
You have 512 meg of ram ?

Use this as an excuss to upgrade the HDD, the factory 40GB ones are only 4,500 rpm speed, shouuld be able to get a 60GB 7,200rpm speed one for around $100.00 US by now - there's no reason to get a genuine HP one, any 2.5" IDE laptop drive should be compatible - check out http://81.5.185.34/tc-one-thousand/upgrades.html for instructions on replacing the HDD.
Not sure about the power side of things, but those battery prices seem very extreme to me...
I had issue similar to your first one when I first got my TC1100, ut it was repaired under warrenty, I think they said they replaced the motherboard!
