The SD memory reader in my m205 doesnt seem to be working. It can detect the memory card for a second (the reader light turns on and the card shows up in my computer) however it quickly disappears and i am unable to access the drive. I have tried a bunch of drivers but nothing seems to work, as it may be a mechanical error.

Does anyone have any similar problems to this, and is there a way i can replace this sd card reader without paying an arm and a leg. I would really like to try to get ready boost working.

Unfortunately, the SD reader is on the mainboard, so repairing it will be difficult. How many memory cards have you tried in it? When was the last time your M205 was reimaged?

There are dismantling instructions for the M200 on this site, if you want to have a look for yourself.

ive tried about 3-4 memory cards and none of them work (and i know they work on other sd readers). To my knowledge the sd card reader was always broken on my computer but now that my waranty has been out, i cant do anyhing about it. Anyone have any other advice?

The 205 likely has internal SD reader throughput predating the speed minimum specs ReadyBoost requires. Best to confirm that the 205 SD reader had reports of working with ReadyBoost, which can be cranky towards SD.

In your position, with it out of warranty, I'd be pulling it apart to make sure everything is copasetic. Then, if there is obviously no physical fault, you know you are up for a mainboard, but will be skilled enough by then to replace it yourself.

Email me if you need some help with finding instructions...

Im not sure about the card options on your tablet but if you also have a CF or PCMCIA card slot you can by a CF or PC-Card multicard reader. I used on in my other laptop that would read CF, SD, MS, MS PRO etc. It fit into the PC Card slot. I also bought a SD to CF converter so I can use SD cards (which I have more of) in my digital camera that takes CF cards only. Works like a charm.

Just be aware the ReadyBoost will not recognize any PCMCIA card adapters, I've tried every single option, including 16 bit and Cardbus CF and SD readers. ReadyBoost only works with either USB2 thumbdrives or SD internal reader latest generation versions.
