When I bought my Toshiba M200, it came with OneNote pre-installed on it. Will I be able to upgrade when Onenote 2007 comes out or will I need to buy the full version of it?

MS just announced an upgrade program for OneNote 2003 users.

Is it better to use the trail version on Onenote 2007 until MS release Onenote? My other question is when will the release of Onenote and other office products be available? I'm a student starting school again on Jan 10, should I wait or use the trial version? How good is the trail version?

Office 2007 including OneNote 2007, are already out, but won't be in retail till January 30 I believe.

I've been running Office and OneNote 2007 on a Vista tablet for about six weeks now, and to be honest, they're nice, but not must haves for most I think. OneNote 2007 does clean up it's UI and is easier to navigate.

I'm using Office 2007 Student and Teacher Edition Trial and it is very nice. If you are looking to upgrade, it's the best value, only $150. It comes with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Onenote. I would recommend downloading the trial version now and getting use familiar with the new UI before classes start. I switched from Gobinder2006 to Onenote 2003 mid-term and it was harder then I anticipated. Switching between Onenote 2003 and 2007 is not nearly as hard, but sitting in class looking for a menu or tool is frustrating when you have a prof that writes with his right hand as he erases with his left. At least that what it seems like.

Where did you get the Office 2007 Student Teacher Edition from? Is it a down-loadable version or is in retail stores?

Go to microsoft.com. On the right hand side click on "Downloads & Trials", then click on "Trials" in the pop-up window. Under "Office" you can download just OneNote 2007 or any of the other packages. In order to get an activation number you must sign up for Windows Live ID. The trial period ends Feb. 28, 2007 for me. I pre-ordered my copy of Office 2007 S & T Edition on Amazon along with my copy of Vista Business. You do not need to show a school ID. It will be released on Jan. 30 with Vista.

I just looked to see which version of OneNote I have (I've never used it but knew it had come with the computer). The installer started and wanted me to input a product key!

I don't think I ever got a product key for any pre-installed software, and I can't look at the stuff that came with the laptop as I'm now on the other side of the Atlantic from the papers.

Has anyone else run into this? I've always assumed that at some point I would like to try this software and see what I thought of it.

If you've never run it, this is normal. It is part of the Office suite, so it has Activation code in it. The product key you need is definitely among the original doco you have at home, and you just need to be connected to the Net to activate...

Thanks. Since I won't be anywhere near my papers for months and do use other parts of Office, I checked what their code was. However, the product ID on Word and PowerPoint is the wrong number of digits for OneNote. I guess I'll be putting off trying it for awhile longer. I didn't try it before because I was too busy dealing with installing a second hard drive and troubleshooting a huge number of things on the new laptop... wanted to get my regular programs to work, not deal with new ones.
