I have installed Vista RC2 on my M1400 (1.1 ghz continuing, 1 gb Ram) and it works great-like getting a new computer. Any one else tried it?

I tried it on my LS800 and liked it very much especially new TIP and the many pen friendly functions sadly I had to take it off as my bank website doesn't work with it along with some essential software.

I installed vista on my LE1600. Works perfectly. Its the OS you dont want to miss for your LE1600, its something your tablet truly deserves and is born for it!

Did you have any performance problems with it on the LS800? I haven't tried it yet on mind, but I expected that Win XP would perform better. Less of a resource hog for such a mobile computer like the LS800.

I have Vista installed on my desktop. It seems to do good job.
There are some program issues with it. Run the compatibility wizard first.
Autocad 2007, diskeeper, Norton, and some others don't work with Vista right now.

Test your rig to see if it can run Vista. I passed everything except for the video card. I tested the M1300 no need of testing my M1200.Because if the video card failed the test for the M1300' the M1200 will do the same.

The "test" only verifies if the Aero animations interface will load. Fortunately, there's far, far more to Vista than that eye-candy gimmickery and Vista runs great on my M1300, just with "Basic" window set.

1GB RAM and fast hard drive (with plenty of free, contiguous space for paging) is the only true hardware needs for decent Vista performance on older tablets at least 800mz.

Well mine M1300 has a 997 MHz CPU and 1 GB of RAM. But anyway what did you get' Vista for a Motion tablet or what ?

I'm running the final RTM of Vista on my 1600. At 1.5gb RAM its noticeably slower than XP. I know Motion states that we can only put 1.5 in these machines but 2gb SODIMMs do exist (stupid expensive but they exist). Has anyone ever tried one to see if the machine will recognize the chip?

I've installed the RTM version of Vista and it runs great. I use it every day with Office 2007. It does run a bit slower but there are a lot of background tasks such as indexing, defender etc, that slow things down.

It's very usable though and would be even better if Outlook 2007 performance was improved.

On the LE1600, everything works, but there aren't proper drivers for the wireless and bluetooth, whilst these work they don't interact with sleep & hibernate, and make these modes unusable.

Motion support says they don't plan to release drivers until the home version comes out.

Having Vista on the tablet is a much more fun experience than XP, and the handwriting recoqnition is almost perfect. I won't go back to XP, but need MS to release the home version before my demo version expires!!

Vista indexing can be disabled in Properties of partition exactly like XP. Searching entire OS only takes a few minutes, even for hidden and system files. The trade-off is worth the rare use for me. Indexing is VERY resource heavy when running. The slowdown can be unsettling and very inconvient at wrong timing. Set Defender scans at off times to control.

That's a problem with SoundMax at least that's what I have in my M1400) which is a tiny app that allows "smart" sound management, determining if earphones or a mic are plubbed into a jack, etc. There is a driver associated with that and the earphone/speaker system, so it's probably not compatible with Vista.

I've had no problems with the sound at all. Works through the speakers and headphones.

I can't remember it vista picked up the drivers or it I pointed it at the XP drivers.

I installed Vista RC1 (build 5728) when it came out on my M1400. I had to go back to XP because Vista didn't support video output to an external monitor. Has anyone with the RTM version tested this?

Thanks.

I installed Vista on my LS800 about a month ago. Here's where the issues are:

1. Does not support SD card slot (had to buy a jump drive)
2. Does not support audio drivers (had to buy a separate portable external sound card)
3. Had to remove Motion dashboard - doesn't work
4. Fingerprint reader doesn't work
5. Does not support using a separate monitor as the main screen
6. Rotate buttons don't work - but you can use the mobility center to rotate screen

I understand that Vista will be commercially available the end of January. Although the sticker on the front of my LS800 says Vista Capable -- Motion tells me that they won't have any drivers that support Vista until sometime this Spring.

Not acceptable

BTW - does anyone have a link where I can get to the latest upgraded version of Vista (RC1 or RC2 perhaps)? Right now I'm running RC1 release 5600.

i can confirm le1600 audio works now.
i uninstalled all sound related drivers/and restarted, allowing windows to autodetect it. then i updated to the latest version from motion's website. it all works now. thanks!

Office 2007 + Vista = best combo on LE1600. Vista is right now in its RTM. Havent seen a finished release yet. Correct me if i am wrong.

I agree, office 2007 and Vista, is a killer combination. Just the fact that Vista learns your handwriting saves me a lot of input time.

Now if only Outlook 2007 was a bit more responsive...

The SD slot definitely works, I have a S12MB SD card and Vista is using it for ReadyBoost

My LE1600 is only 3 months old as I had it replaced as part of a repair. Maybe different HW versions?

It's not working on mine. How did you do it?
I got mine back from repair 2 days ago so if they charged something on the hardware I should have the new one too, because they changed the mainboard.

Nothing at all, Vista recognised it straight away.
