My TC100 needs a new battery. Where should I buy? What should I pay? Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

I also got a replacement battery at Ebay. I bought from UK (as I live in Europe) and payed £39 which is about $76. It is just as good as the original HP/Compaq battery was when it was new. That is, I get about 2 and a half hour with full backlight and Wifi on (but it depends on the software you are running - I don't do very much inking at the moment, but work with the stylus only).

Doing a quick look I found some battery auctions on Ebay US, starting from 25$ used (20 pieces), mostt are about $55, most expensive about 70$.

If you ask me, I'd go for a new one and get it from a professional vendor, if possible. That way chances are higher that you'll get a relatively new one (in terms of fabrication date).
Remember, LiIon batteries don't age by use but by time, even when not used.
Keep this in mind if you wanna buy some spare batteries also.
Best storage condition should be cool and only 1/3 charged (the more the charge, the faster they age). At least that's what you read everywhere :-)

Good luck!

I'm guessing thats bad... I also bought a new battery for my TC1100 on ebay from sib-usa i believe is the merchant. Its ok... its definitely a different color than the original but so far according to Notebook Hardware Control app, it seems to be holding a charge quite well and I'm roughly around 3.5 hours give or take...

Is it a 3600mah or 4400mah, the auctions list both specs?

New in box HP original batteries often show up on eBay for $50-60 Buy-it-now.

i'm not quite sure which it is... NHC states roughly 3800mah after 4% wear but i dont know how accurate that is.

How many hours are you getting out of these "new" batteries. Aren't they already a couple of years old..Li-ion batteries lose capacity over time?

The then 'new' battery lasted in and around the 3 hour mark as it should. Now that the battery is several years old, it's about 48% 'worn' and gets, as one would imagine, between 1.5-1.75 hours of life.

Let's just say I didn't post that...

These "new" batteries are actually 3rd party batteries manufactured to OEM spec. I just ordered one from www.dealextreme.com for $50USD. It came in a relatively timely fashion but was shipped in a bubble-wrapped envelope. Unfortunately there is a crack 'into' the screw hole on the battery, but that's not a huge issue as I tend to not screw it in place anyway. I haven't even charged this one yet so I'll have to report back on the life it gets once I do.

This is the battery that I just received. It is an original from HP/Compaq. Brand new. $48 includes shipping.
