I can also confirm that Ubuntu and/or Kubuntu work very well on the X41T. I'm currently running Kubuntu v5.10 and most of the hardware is autodetected and works out of the box. This includes video, sound, ethernet, wireless, trackpoint, USB, IBM Fn-keys, Speed Step, sleep, suspend to RAM, and even Windows networking (Samba). With a little work, encrypted wireless, support for the middle scroll button on the trackpoint, on-screen Fn-key display (just like in Windows) are working. I've even gotten the tablet pen working and am able to sketch on a Journal-like application. All in all, the IBM Thinkpads are pretty well supported on Linux, and the major distributions like Ubuntu work pretty well.

I'm still working on hibernation and simultaneous internal/external video, however....

K0lo HI, I would like to ask if you feel the difference in performance while using Ubuntu rather than Windows.

It has been long time now since I was willing to install Linux, please advise I had in mind SuSe.

Yes, there is a difference in performance. Linux is about twice as slow as Windows on the X41T. It takes twice as long to boot, hibernate, and go into and come out of standby. This, however, is a well-known issue with Linux; startup and shutdown are notoriously slow compared to Windows.

Opening similar progams (like Firefox) is also a little slower, but not by a factor of 2. But don't let that discourage you. It's still a great experience to learn a new OS, and there's a lot to like about Ubuntu/Kubuntu.
