I still have my C110 too. Purrs like a kitten. You won't find any fanless Tabletpcs as long as they produce heat.

Hello digital doc, still in here - remember your reviews from your clinic back in 2003.

The C110 is fanless and dead silent, problem is that C110 is not sold any more.

Sure fanless tablets / labtops exits, quetion is which are fanless ?

I never thought of the C110 as being fanless. Interesting indeed. Are you sure it is fanless or just quiet. Sahara has a fan but you can't hear it. Certainly the faster new TPC units all have fans as far as I know?

Back in 2003 - ( or was it in 2004 ? ) I made a lot of research in order to get a fanless, silent battery-backed PC, since power cuts are quite frequent in this town, and I wanted to replace my noicy PC tower with a dead silent solution.

At that time the conclution was that the Centrino ULV 1GHz processsor didnt need fan. I called Acer support in Denmark, they confirmed that the C110 was fanless.

The C110 was one of the few at that moment with 1GHz Centrino.

Now a days they are all equiped with 1.5 - 1.7GHz processors, which I think all have fan. Unfortunatly the C110 is discontinued.

1GHz Centrino is more than sufficent for even my Borland C++ Builder projects, surfing and normal use, but competition pumps the processor speed up since users dont get it. The new UMPC is an alternative, but they dont have keyboard - which is nice to have sometimes.

Now- do anybody have a fanless tablet/labtop which are still available ????

Viking, try posting this under a more general category as opposed to just Acer.

The C11x is really fanless. That was one of my purchase criteria when I look for my tablet. Even the HP TC1100 is NOT fanless. I am so glad that I went to buy a C112 as I suspect they might just kill the line.

Why I like fanless? Quiet but also there wont be fan failure to stop the machine from booting up.

C11x: fanless and priceless now :-)

Actually the C11x is not 'fan'less, it has got lots of fans :P;)

So yeah there are no more fanless tablets ....

Not exactly. The NEC Versa Pro is also fanless and thin as a sheet of paper :)

Look at this thread:

The only problem is it seems NEC has also discontinued this little marvel... and if not, you should buy it in Japan.

I thot it was never on sale. But it is cool and thin. However, I like that C11x has a keyboard that can also act as a stand.

Hi again,

A follow up on this old topic.

In my search for "annother" silent portable, Toshiba promised that their Portege R2oo was praticaly silent. So spend 2000 USD. However - it turned out not to be silent at all. Fann kicks in all the time, and it gets pretty hot. Very nice and thin design but - after 13 monts motherboard and HDD crashed. Not realy a machine to recommend - to complicated and fragile, and Norton seems to impossible to kick out. System recovery is a bid complicated - in comparison to Acer with a second partition with full copy of system SW for immediate recovery.

So Im looking once again for a fanless portable. Any sugestions ?

Looking to buy a second hand C110 since the one I have has been connected non stop since 2003 without problems

But you already got one C110, isnn't it?
And I remember the R200 isn't a tabletpc.

Revisting this topic again, hope you are reading. It sounds like your R200 is on Vista. Is that true? I just want to confirm this. I have another Vista notebook and I found the OS visually nice but unfriendly to a mobile notebook.

Hi !
Are there any news since 2007 ?
I've bought a TC1100: quite silent, except when It's not on the battery... (and this battery doesn't last long unfortunately...)
Have you got some idea for a very silent tablet PC ? (I love reading without noise :biggrin1:)

The Motion M1400 is fanless, and while it's not cutting edge, I've been running a pretty modern set of applications (Windows 7 beta, Office 2007, Adobe Creative Suite 4) without trouble.

Of course, if noise is an issue you might want to replace the hard drive, since the one I have makes a bit of a racket (as laptop HDs go). That doesn't bother me though, and I love the machine.

Oh sorry, I somehow completely skipped over the Dec 2007 post when I was reviewing.

Do you get overheating on the Motion? How much RAM is installed? Does it use 2.5" drives?
thinking of getting one for its 12.1" screen.
Does the 4-way pad works in both Landscape and Portrait?

Motion Tablets are not fanless, but are renowned for being pretty much completely silent. I haven't heard if that holds true for the new J3400, But it is for the LE1600 & LE1700.

Do you get overheating on the Motion?
No. The tablet is sometimes hot, frequently with the extended battery but never harm. And quiet.

How much RAM is installed?
Mine has 4Gb.

Does it use 2.5" drives?
No. A 1.8" ZIF drive for my LE1700. 1.8 ZIF or micro-ATA for theLE1600.

Does the 4-way pad works in both Landscape and Portrait?
Yes
