Hi Guys,
having problems with my new Tecra M4. Whenever I click on a folder in explorer, or open up a new program, the mouse momentarily goes jerky and it's really annoying. It seems to be when the hard drive is being accessed. I have disabled the indexing service... Any ideas on what could be causing it?...

Mine does that too. In fact, my older Toshiba Portege 3500 and the TC1100 I used to have did the same thing. I thinks it's a Tablet PC thing. I also tried running it in Virtual PC and still did it.

Hello wormdrummer and oscarf00

I've found that turning off transition effects to make a big difference.

I had a lot of mini-freezes on my R15. I have had many fewer
since I disabled the HDD Protection. I'm sure there's a way to
find a less sensitive setting, but my HDD Protection was kicking in
a LOT, causing temporary freeze-ups.

well, after rebuilding the machine like 4 times, I finally figured out what what bringing the system to a halt. Even though when I looked at the processes running in Task manager, the cpu was 100% idle, the machine felt like it was running a Pentium 2.. thats how slow it was... Anyway I finally figured out that the machine only slowed down when I installed PC-cillin anti-virus.... At the moment, I have just left norton on there that comes with the machine and it is running super fast. It's weird, because on other machines I've had, Norton usually slows them down as well.

This is probably the most hated thing I can think of that my Toshibas do – maybe that makes a control freak :p. I understand proc, memory and HD overload... but I've owned machines since the good ol days of Win 3x and can't recall another system that would cause the cursor to limp along or freeze unless they were changing hardware settings or having a serious meltdown. I personally think it has something to do with the way the Toshiba bios is configured, rather than resources per-se. Maybe a hardware guru can tell us whether that’s the case. Now what makes it so bothersome is the rate occurrence. Heck, opening Windows Explorer seems to be a major crisis for the thing. It's made even more fun when you realize you've clicked on something you didn't want to because it short-shrifted your mouse movement [}:)]

I just tried this on my 3505 and it worked perfectly. Thanks for solving this annoyance, it had been driving me crazy.

I had the same issue with my HP TC4200. Following WNewquay's tip was helpful, but didn't solve the issue completely. I think it has something to do with the TabletPC OS itself, but can't pinpoint what's causing it. I even disabled tabtip.exe and tcserver.exe, but jerkness doesn't stop. I'm using F-Prot Antivirus but had the same issue with Norton AV. Only way I've found so far to completely resolve the jumping cursor problem is logging on in safe mode.

I found that animated ads in the browser were making the mouse cursor jerky. I found that setting the (graphics) hardware acceleration from full to the level just below it seemed to fix it (Control Panel > Display > Settings Tab > Advanced Button > Troubleshoot Tab)
