Hi,
I have a Stylistic LT P-600, which I've used for a couple years running Win2000. It wasn't bad, but I got the itch to try to get it running with WinXP (Pro, not Tablet). The upgrade went mostly OK, but I have a couple problems.

1) The ATI video drivers seem to have gotten upgraded, which loses the ability to rotate the screen (i.e. to portrait mode). If I re-install the original drivers I can get the screen rotation kind of working, but....

2) When I have the video rotation working, I can't get the pen touch screen to rotate. I found a driver called "moufiltr.sys/inf" in the ATI drivers folder. I can get this to install per the brief README instructions, but it doesn't seem to help.

3) I can't seem to get the CIC pen stuff to work, it crashes and doesn't install correctly. This is less important to me than screen rotation.

It may be that I haven't yet stumbled on the correct combination/sequence of installing these components.

Anyway, has anyone gotten this stuff to work at all? There are a few things I like about using XP versus Win2000, though I may end up falling back to Win2000 if I can't get this stuff to work. Any insights appreciated.

Thanks.

I've had XP running on a ST3400 and on a LT C-500 so yes it does work.

But do you have the penmon working? I'd be interested in that =P

Well, OK... can you supply any more detail, like whether you had to do anything in particular to get the pen features (CIC PenX) working properly, and/or what you had to do to get the video rotation to work?

I've got XP running acceptably, so it kind of "works" at some level (actually it mostly works), but I can no longer use the pen stuff and I can no longer rotate the screen (the video will rotate but not the pen/mouse).

Thanks.

Hammer...nope penmon working but pen and screen rotation work.

Jon....no just followed the CIC instructions and it worked fine. No problem with rotation either. I think the video is different in the 2 models. I used Pivot Pro on my ST3400 to get the pen to orient correctly.

Jon make sure you install the Fujitsu pen driver before you install CIC. Also make sure your in DOS, not a DOS window when installing CIC. I used the 2000 drivers for anything XP needed but didn't have or have correctly.

Thanks for letting me know you've got it working, it provoked me to look around carefully, and I found an Ah Ha! item...

Laying around in the \Program Files\CIC directory is a driver called moufiltr.sys (with corresponding moufiltr.inf). Highlighting the "Fujitsu Pen Driver" (not the precise text, but close enough) in the Device Manager, followed by Update Driver, then choose the moufiltr.inf referenced above. Reboot, etc. Then install CIC PenX through the normal setup program.

This got CIC PenX working. Now I have it all working. Then I installed the ATI video drivers again, saying "No" to whether I want to replace more recent files (there's a bunch of them). This got the ATI rotation software installed.

Now, when I log on, for some reason PENMON.EXE gets an error - "WMI Error: Error accessing class instance!". Click OK, then it gets a Windows XP crash dialog, dismiss that. Mouse/pen tracking with screen rotation still doesn't work. HOWEVER - if I then start PENMON.EXE, it will not crash this time, then rotation will work just fine.

So.... it'd sure be nice if I could figure out how to get PENMON not to crash the first time it starts when logging on (it's started by a registry entry in HKLM\Software\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run). I tried substituting a batch file that just delays a few seconds then starts it, but that doesn't seem to help either.

Hmmm.... Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks for the help so far!

edit: I just found that the batch file to start penmon will work if set to a long enough delay value. Would still be nice not to have to do this, if anyone has any insight...

You've already found the best work around for the pen monitor issue that I know of. Since the OS is not supported Fujitsu is no help in adjusting/upgrading the driver. I killed penmon in the registry and just loaded it manually after I start.

Update XP penmon issues:

Been playing with my C-500 a lot more with all the talk of the new Motion LS800. I have successfully installed XP Pro and XP Tablet Edition on my C-500 and all functions work as they did in Win2000. The problem people are having with penmon is related to SP2. Basically if you follow the install steps mentioned in the forum and do not upgrade to SP2 everything will work.

If you have everything working with SP2 installed please let us know.

I am at the state I was in my last post, with most stuff working (I am running SP2). In fairness, PenMon still crashes when starting relatively frequently (though it only starts at logon, and I just leave it logged in most of the time, so it's not a huge problem). Again, if I just wait a minute or so it'll work OK eventually. I can then rotate the screen and mouse tracking works.

Hi

I have an lt p-600 fujitsu. It appeared as though the hard drive broke so i replaced it with a new one after the part before the first reboot on another machine. I placed this hard drive into the fujitsu, but it still wont boot to load windows. The bios recognises the hard drive. Does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong with this machine?

thanks

Two things.

First, you've tacked this onto the end of another thread that is about something else. As a result, fewer people will notice it, and you're less likely to get an answer. I recommend you open a thread about the problem you are actually having.

Second, you don't say much. Actual things happen on actual computers - what do you do (in detail) and what does the computer show back (in detail)? Then it's possible for us to know what has happened, and is happening, and tell you how it matches what we know.

You are our eyes and hands on this - no one here sees what you see.

Cheers,
Bret

This computer will not boot from a USB CD-ROM drive. To use a USB CD ROM, you need to boot the system from a floppy drive with a DOS Boot disk.
If you don't have a docking station and external floppy drive (like me), there are workarounds. If you remove the new hard drive and install it in another laptop that can boot from either its floppy or its CD drive, you can install windows 98 to the hard drive, and load the Fujitsu Win98 disk driver.
Then put the hard drive back into the Stylistic, boot it up, access the CD-ROM drive and install XP (clean install, not upgrade).
You cannot load XP onto the hard drive in another laptop and then transplant it to the stylistic--it will give you a MBR error.
Let us know how you make out.

Hello…yes, I’m in the same boat as a lot of folks who have purchase a Fujitsu LT C-500 and are having one heck of a time with the pen drivers.

When I got this thing, it had been reloaded and upgraded to Windows 2000.

At the time, the basic pen function worked…but unfortunately I tried to load the PenX software to get the handwriting recognition to work as well….big mistake.

Somehow in the process, I lost my basic pen functionality.

So now, I not only don’t have the PenX working, I don’t even have a pen at all.

I’ve downloaded drivers from Fujitsu, and have tried to load them…way too many times in different ways.

Currently I’ve uninstalled The PenX software and have been trying to get the basic pan function working again…with little success and a whole lot of aggravation.

The errors I’m getting on bootup are:

- wmierror accessing class instance
- tablet is not initialized / pen functionality is unavailable
- failed to initialize fpidrv.sys (interesting since I can’t even find this file on the tablet, or on the internet)

Under mouse drivers, I have the Fujitsu Stylistic 3400 pen loaded, but it “can not start” (Code 10)

Drivers:
Pencfg.cpl
Penmon.exe
Fujpen.sys
Pencal.dll

Fujitsu tech support, both online and on the phone have been of no help, and following different suggestions that I have read concerning other peoples problems with the pen on forums have gotten me deeper into the driver morass of pc death.

This is driving me nuts…can anyone help??

Ok…getting better…now the only error I get on boot is “WMI Error accessing class instance” (whatever the heck that’s supposed to tell me ; ) )

But the pen still don’t work…it’s the only thing in the system hardware with an error.
“can not start” (Code 10)
