I use the new VOIP service Skype (www.skype.com) at home and love the quality.

However, the sound/connection quality on my sc2010 is completely unacceptable.

Other sound/mic/voice features are working fine.

Anyway have similar problem/idea?

Thanks!
Mike

Maybe you're comparing your EV speakers to your Desktop's 5.1 Altec Lansing speaker system? ;)

Are you on a broadband connection with your Scribbler? My <s>Scribbler </s>, Acer, works fine on broadband Skype but not on dial up.

Do you have an array mic? If so change settings.

Just some initial thoughts, since your "Other sound/mic/voice features are working fine."

I think what you need is a patch file from Tatung (the actual manufacturer of this tablet). They have a specific patch (registry import file) for Skype. :)

I've included the contents below. If you select/cut/paste and save to a file (say patch.reg) you can then double-click the file to import into you registry. After this reboot your tablet and all should be good.

See http://www.tatung.com/tabletpc for other stuff [^]

---------------- start selection after this line --------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\W DMAudio]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\W DMAudio\Kmixer]
"MaxNumMixBuffers"=-
"MinNumMixBuffers"=-
"StartNumMixBuffers"=-
----------- select up until but not including this line -------------

you can also download and rename this attachment to "iskype.reg"...

Skype is a beautiful thing when it works - and it usually does! It's free P2P VoIP if both ends have the client or you can 'call out' to a land line for very resonable rates :)

Hope this helps!

I used Skype on my Scrbbler 2100 last week and the sound was garbley gook. I am afraid to try the patch though, because I don't want to mess with my Dragon Dictate.[xx(]

Sorry digitaldoc, I can't vouch for Dragon, as I don't use it.
All I can suggest is to check and export the current settings so you can easily un-patch :-) (I didn't save the originals - I wish I had, it might help understand the fix) I do know the above patch removes the three buffer keys and their values.

The keys are listed in the patch - so:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Multimedia\W DMAudio
is simply a 'hive' (tree like structure not unlike Explorer shows you folders). Clicking on the final one "WDMAAudio" and going: File -> Export, type a name like "orig-WDM.reg" - this will save the settings so later you could just double-click that file to reset back. I do know that the above patch removes the three keys and their values.
- (See attached image)

After saying all that - there is a simpler way! [eureka] Just set a restore point:
- Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System tools -> System Restore, and follow the prompts! :-)

I suspect the values are only for enhancing recording - but I can't be sure - I am not real sure why removing them fixes the Skype problem in the first place.

I have a Compaq TC1000 and my skype has issues as well. I don't have the same drivers as the Tatung...Do you have any solution for me to improve my call quality?
