hello, i am a reseller of merchandise. i recently received 4 gateway m1300 tablet pcs, that seem to be a couple years old. my question is when i boot up it says no operating system found. i have the software, but am curious how to get it on the pc. i know you can use an external cd drive, but does it have to be a certain one?, and how do i get it to boot off the cd drive without being able to install drivers? i am very confused, any help or advice i would much appreciate thanks alot

You need a Motion CD/ROM player and the Motion Recovery Disc. When you start up the tablet it will recognize the cd player and start loading the drivers etc necessary to install the OS. Apparently the drivers for the CD player are loaded during this initial start up. I had to do a full recovery and found out the hard way that I had to have a Motion CD player and not some third party one. Motion support will inform you of this if you call them.

you can try ebay or tech for less. I believe tech for less has one for about 70.00 which is more then half the price from Motion. However, keep in mind that the tech for less one's are firewire which will work on Motion 1300 and 1400 tabs but not on the newer Le1600.

The Addonics USB and firewire CD players do not allow you to boot from them; I learned this by trial and error.
Try to get a motion one.

Just make sure the ! symbol is not in front of the CDROM entry in the BIOS.

My Gateway-branded M1300 has no problem booting from a NEC ND-3520A DVD writer in an external enclosure. The enclosure uses the inexpensive Prolific chipset that supports both USB and Firewire, and I used the USB connection. I did not try the Firewire connection. I think any ATAPI standard-compliant optical drive should work.
