I wanted to report a couple of applications that won't launch on the TabletPC in Portrait mode. They apparently check the display settings to ascertain whether Windows is set to a resolution of at least 800 X 600.
Since portrait mode on the Tablet is 768 X 1024 and the pixel width of 768 is less than 800, they fail to launch. In both cases, if I switch to Lanscape mode, launch the app, then rotate the screen -- it works just fine...
Here are the apps I know about:
Adobe Photoshop Album 1.0
Tweak XP Pro 2.08
If you know of other applications like this, or have any suggestions for fixing it, please post them here.

vready,
I frequently use a topograpical map package called TopoUSA 4.0. It runs well in both portrait and landscape on the Tablet, but it does warn me when I'm in portrait mode that it likes 800x600 or better. Apart from the annoying dialog box with the warning, no other ill effects. I've not had any problems with any other software.
And I have to say that surprises me. I've done Windows client application programming in the past. I almost always check the resolution to ensure it meets the minimums for proper formatting of my screens. But, I usually take the approach that TopoUSA does and simply warn the user that the scrolling they are going to have to do is not my fault. :) I think you have no choice but blame bad programmers for applications refusing to run at all under those conditions.
Any Windows application should at the very least work at 640x480 in my opinion. Especially something like Tweak XP that would probably get run in safe mode from time to time. Keep in mind, it's only my opinion. I don't mean to offend anyone.

It's too bad that the video drives can't support a virtual resolution with scrolling so that these apps won't complain.

H&R Block's TaxCut program also has this problem at start up.

Tablet Pool won't launch in portrait mode either. No warnings or anything. It just fails to launch. I find it ironic that this program won't run in portrait mode seeing as Microsoft released it specifically for the tablet as part of Power Toys.

ddoligalski, I saw the same thing. Did you get Tax Cut to come up or was is "Sorry Charlie"?

TZiegler, start TaxCut up in Landscape mode. Once it starts up, switch orientation back to Portrait.
That worked for me, though I didn't check yet if there were any hidden gotchas.
