I have some forms that are not word docs and wanted to know the various ways to get forms into Journal other than Word docs. I can scan the form and then import to Word, but then it is quite large size wise as jpeg or tiff and it is not very clear when imported to Journal. Any suggestions on progs for transforming forms into word docs that do not cost an arm and a leg (freeware/shareware) would also be helpful. Thanks much!!!!

Are these just paper forms? If not what app are they in?

I've done it a couple of ways.

I've used excel to build complex box forms and printed them in using Journal writer. I've also built images in Paintshop Pro, exported to a JPEG file, and then selected the JPEG as a background. The tiling feature is great for repeating patterns.

It might help to look at this topic for some things I discovered about controlling Journal template behavior:

Just print then using the Journal Note Writer printer driver and you are done.

Sammy,

You are unbelievable. If you feel the need to tell someone they didn't help you, try to do it a little nicer. The first part of your question was "various ways to get forms into Journal other than Word docs." You asked how to get a document (a form) into Journal - your question was answered correctly.

Later on you asked "Any suggestions on progs for transforming forms into word docs that do not cost an arm and a leg (freeware/shareware) would also be helpful."

If you didn't mean to ask your question the way you did, then re-state it a little more clearly, don't criticize someone because he answered incorrectly the question you *meant* to ask. We're not mind readers.

Not sure what you consider an "arm and a leg" as far as cost goes, but most of the good ones will be at least $150.00 USD. I did find a program called TextBridge (www.scansoft.com) which is $75.00 USD. However, it might only convert to PDF... My suggestion is to search for OCR software and try some demo versions.

I think what I asked was plenty clear. The response made no sense. Dont need any lectures thanks.

Sammy,

My post said nothing about Word. It said to get anything into Journal, simply print it to the Journal Note Writer printer. So, if you have a program on your Tablet that can read TIFF files and print them, you can get your forms into Journal simply by printing from that program.

I hope this helps, but if not, you get what you pay for. :)

I have used Omnipage and Paperport to get scanned forms into Word using OCR which than makes the files very small and consequently much faster when imported into Journal. I have had occassional problems when saving these template files in Journal if they are too large. See the Microsoft Tablet PC newsgroup discussion forum for more details.

Good Luck;

Sammy, one of the problems with using scanner and OCR to input form to Journal is minor changes to the form after OCR. Using TIFF files and so on works, but these files take up a good bit of hard disk space if you scan in a good number of pages at a time. I have had the best results using Adobe Acrobat 5. You can import the forms directly to Journal, and you get an exact copy of the paper form.
